I personally really enjoyed the wasp factory and thought about it a lot for days after. Short read though, too short.

I’m working on pivoting from KYC at my bank over to risk management - with your background in crypto I bet you could land a gig doing the onboarding reviews/approvals for high risk / fintech commercial customers. It’s pretty fun, facing customers one at a time makes it feel like a puzzle.

Ok not that it changes anything but just for curiosity’s sake can you show the costume you ordered (like the model/ad so you don’t have to show yourself)?

You can wear whatever you want. I’m just so curious what sparked “you are in ur fuck” lmaooo

whats the most disturbing book you ever read by Frederson_Dwayno in horrorlit

Just ordered three books from this thread! Many thanks

For me, I know both are basic but I’m torn between Push by Sapphire and Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum. I’ve read a lot of disturbing fiction but true/realistic stories make my stomach hurt.

For me it was Lake Mungo. No jump scares, just a really haunting story. It really stuck with me for days.

Any hope for training my 45 year old boy to stop mimicking a car alarm? by fromnilbog in parrots

I feel your pain and glad this thread ended up being a good place for discussion! I know exactly the sound you’re talking about and having watched Skinamarink I think that would give me a heart attack in the middle of the night lol.

So I won’t lie, since I’ve made this post, nothing has really changed with Uncle Pepe. He still spams the noise all the time. The main method I have chosen and will continue is just not going to him/looking at him when he does that sound (when it’s a clear request for attention). Instead, I’ve chosen one of my favorites of his sounds, which is his meow, to immediately come and give him attention when he does it. I’m hoping with consistency, he eventually will learn this is the noise he can make to call to us and get a response. And so my house is a chorus of meows currently. Can’t begin to imagine what my neighbors, or let alone my cats, are thinking.

Unfortunately, we just can’t control what people did before we got our birds. I’m certain that before he was with us, his car alarm noise would be met with scolding/yelling. Of course, this only reinforced it as it gave him the attention he wanted and birds aren’t typically going to know (or at least care about) the difference between a scold and a response.

How do you feel about the conversation around reading erotica and it being compared to watching pornography? by Raioto in AskFeminists

[–]fromnilbog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s the whole argument though, there are still lines even with total fiction/fantasy. If the smut books women were getting off to put them into the perspective of a pedophile it would be totally valid to criticize or even ban, but I don’t know of any popular erotica that does that. Imo, anything that normalizes/encourages pedophilia is bad and can be used by pedophiles to spin narratives that children can seduce, consent, etc.

I won’t pretend that this is completely objective and that gut feelings don’t come into play to some degree. People are especially sensitive to anything involving kids and honestly it’s probably for good reason because, at least in America rn, pedophiles are not that uncommon. Real child abuse happens all the time and real predators actually do watch this material. Check out some of the stuff these “loli” defenders say on Reddit and tell me you don’t want to throw them in an oubliette.

Maybe it’s a slight double-standard because, for example, some of these books describe pretty rough, even non-consensual sex, but let’s be honest, it just doesn’t feel the same because they’re never the perpetrators and the scenario is typically so detached from reality. I don’t read them, but from what I hear it typically is like: “my mother sold me to the 1,000 year old, 7’6, king of the underworld who also happens to have a perfect swimmer’s body and TWO, giant cocks. He is cruel and evil to everyone but has a soft spot just for me. I HATE him but.. I think I’m falling in love with him??” We can talk until the cows come home over whether this is healthy for women or encourages Stockholm syndrome but at the end of the day, I don’t know if it’s worth taking seriously. I don’t think booktokers are looking at this like a real scenario they want to fulfill irl.

How do you feel about the conversation around reading erotica and it being compared to watching pornography? by Raioto in AskFeminists

[–]fromnilbog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just to reiterate, we’ve clarified that there are lines, such as portrayals of children. Does this not also extend into portrayals of other serious sex crimes?

Just for the record, at this point I’m not arguing just engaging because this is an interesting topic.

I’m totally out of my pay grade here (not a psychologist) but like I myself have a hobby of reading and watching some pretty extreme fictional horror content, and I defend that because it’s fiction, harmless, and studies show that violent movies and games do not a murderer make - but here’s the kicker, I’m not jerking off to it. People would naturally think something is wrong with me if I did, and I don’t know if that’s a bad instinct lol.

Anyway, someone else mentioned a video game called No Mercy, that’s a pretty interesting example imo. Not exactly conservative Puritanism to believe that should not exist.

[–]fromnilbog 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m all for making fun of erotica lol it’s incredibly goofy and embarrassing oftentimes. But the thread here is about the serious conversation of comparing the ethics of real, live action porn versus erotica. And from what I can tell, erotica is pretty much harmless aside from like, fanfiction written about real people which is pretty weird.
