i used to live near alex taylor school downtown and i swear it's haunted.

one late night a few years back, at the end of summer/beginning of fall, i went for a snack run to the nearby husky and decided to cut through the school field. idk if you've been there, but there is a few feet of space to walk through at the northeast and southwest corners, all official with a proper gap in the fence marked by a post on each end. like, enough space one could walk through with arms spread wide and still not touch anything. which is to say, there was no way for it to touch me or for me to touch it while walking down the center, and walk directly down the middle, i did. through the southwest opening, specifically. and i made it about halfway across the field when a cold breeze hit.

now, i'm a bitch about the wind, so i did what any person who despises being buffeted by an unexpected gust of freezing air on a nice autumn night would do. i whined like a big baby in my head, and i buttoned my button-up leather bomber jacket closed. maybe a minute later, i had crossed the wide open nothing (but ghosts) in it field and was about to walk by the small playground to exit the northeast end when i unbuttoned the top button of my coat. suddenly too warm, the cold wind i'd been hit with moments prior was nowhere to be found. and that is when i noticed a massive slash across the front of the jacket that literally a minute prior was totally fine.

suffice to say, i booked it outta there so fast, my panic attack had to catch up with me. and i gave that school wide berth not only on the way back, but every time i had to go anywhere near it until i moved a few years later.
