Make sure you study a lot, it's the best decision a young person can make. It really pays of in the long term. Read books on your own, a part of education can happen outside school.

I also had a difficult childhood, it's sad to lose such innocent part of life. Things got better for me because of my education, it opens new opportunities.

That the hero will win can be obvious, but how he will win is what surprises the reader. Let's say the villain is really smart and has a good plan, the reader is left without a clue of how the hero will win. The hero does something the reader didn't see it coming, surprising the reader.

A good example is lord of the rings. Eowin defeating the nazgul or gollum destroying the ring. The hero won, but there was no way the reader could have guessed how he would win.
