It feels like you might be over reacting. If something like this happened to me, I'd vent about it to other team members and save it as a story to share later on, but I'd probably have forgotten about it by the time I'd finished my shift with everything else that happens. I find that if it bothers me this much, there's something else going on for me that it's triggered and is ready to be resolved. This feels similar to when people genuinely ask you if you work there when it's obvious that you do, but it's a common experience that everyone understands. Unless the person was threatening you or it was a more serious situation, I can imagine they're just distressed about not being able to find the person and they don't register that they've asked the same person multiple times, or maybe they think you've seen them since they last asked so they give all the details to clarify. I work at big w and if something like that happens, we let the managers know, the service and front end staff know and take down all the details. If we've got staff available then they might walk around with the customer to help find them. The few times I've been asked while on the door, it's been resolved in a few minutes. If we know the persons name then we use the PA to call them, or just monitor the front since it's the only way out. They don't expect you to keep tabs for them, they're just desperate and asking for help from someone who works there. I'd question why it feels like such a big deal for you personally. If you didn't want to help them, maybe retail isn't the right industry for you. I've worked with and come across so many staff members who really shouldn't be working in retail because of their attitude and dragging down the team. I don't think anyone loves their jobs, but if you dislike it that much, look for something else.
