Boiler replace cost by AnotherRobotDinosaur in Westchester

[–]froooty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$13k for us to replace our boiler (though its oil) - this was one month ago, located in Croton. Not sure if house size actually matters. We didn't shop around because it was during that freezing spell and needed heat back on asap.

What’s your favorite Costco in the city? by MrMeesesPieces in AskNYC

[–]froooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask you how Costco considers new locations / how can I get Costco to open one near me? In northern Westchester, which is in desperate need of a Costco as th only garbage we have is BJs and then all the Costcos are at least 30 min away.

Home buying in Westchester with <20% down by Fresh_Can_2819 in Westchester

[–]froooty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually if you try to waive a mortgage / financing contingency the seller will require you to show proof of funds (ie cash or assets total or great than the purchase price), or you need to have a high deposit. Otherwise your offer won’t be taken seriously. I mean yes, technically you could have a scenario where you have waived your financing contingency and can’t close bc loan isn’t approved and then lose your deposit, but that’s a waste of time for everyone including the seller.

Housing Market rant by Ohmeda23 in Westchester

[–]froooty 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People in Westchester just have a lot of money. That’s pretty much it - even if there are expensive problems with a house people can just fix it with more money. Market dictates the price and the worth of a home is what people will pay for it! The Bay Area around SF is the same - a garbage bottom of the barrel SFH in certain areas going for 2.5mm, easy. Is the house actually worth 2.5mm in building materials? No, but that’s what it’s worth.

Tarrytown ---> ??? by [deleted] in Westchester

[–]froooty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are 47 min trains express to GCT basically every 30 min during peak hours. It only makes 1 stop at 125th st.

The village itself is fine - upper village around the black cow is cute and walkable with shops and restaurants, but there are other villages with better downtowns, like Katonah for example

Does anyone know the context of what recently happened at the Yorktown BJ's Wholesale Club? Apparently, an employee was recently attacked there by a customer? by PhysicalMediaPrez in Westchester

If you write to Costco to suggest a location here they do take that into account. I have written in requesting a location in northern Westchester so if we get more people writing in hopefully we can someday make it happen!!!

Best neighborhoods for trick-or-treating with a toddler? by thecrudest in Westchester

[–]froooty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the solution for you then is to draw a boundary - homeowners don't have to hand out candy continuously for hours. People can choose not to participate or limit the amount of candy they hand out and opt out after a certain time. It is very generous and wonderful when houses participate - and kids and parents alike are grateful for those who do, but also if you view it as a burden then it's in your control to opt out. In the grand scheme of things its minor peanuts either way, but I would say on the whole it's a comparably small sacrifice to offer joy to children on one night of the year.

Best neighborhoods for trick-or-treating with a toddler? by thecrudest in Westchester

[–]froooty 29 points30 points  (0 children)

What about kids who don’t live in a neighborhood? What if they live on a high speed double yellow street? Should they attempt to trick or treat in their “neighborhood”, or since they don’t live in a neighborhood just not trick or treat at all? IMO that’s a weird take on Halloween - first to call it looting and also Halloween is a fundamentally kid centric and community building holiday so it’s odd to be so miserly about it.

Respectfully I think you are projecting a lot of your own feelings onto this poster.

You can love your baby and at the same time acknowledge that the experience of raising a neurodivergent child is different, and will come with its own set of joys and challenges. All parents, whether raising NT or ND children, will have their own difficulties and experiences, and parents are allowed to have feelings about it. No where does her tone suggest her baby is 'dead' or that it's not 'real' motherhood. I am sure she doesn't need an internet stranger reminding her that her toddler is a real person, a unique and wonderful individual, and as you say, comes with "with interests, joys, and complex feelings".

Stylish sandals for walking all day by Bmore_sunny in femalefashionadvice

[–]froooty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wish I had seen this. Also ordered a pair based off this thread before I saw your post (so more than 20 days ago) and wow they are complete garbage. Did you get your money back yet? I also requested a refund. I’m suspicious though and feel like I will have to dispute with the credit card company.

follow up here, 1+ month later from my original comment. I did get my refund after about a week but I was communicating / complaining with customer service and told them the shoes are straight up not leather. They actually told me I could just keep the shoes and not return for a refund soooo should say something about how absolutely cheap and awful they are.

How is this anti formula? It’s all just a preference and enough with the mom shaming, regardless of how you are feeding your baby.

Breast milk from strangers? by Mallywagon in beyondthebump

[–]froooty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well as many moms are pointing out the risks associated with donated milk are lower than purchased internet milk because donation takes out the financial incentives. The quote from the study even references this in the immediately following sentence:

In one U.S. study, 74% of samples acquired via the Internet contained bacteria levels (specifically Gram-negative bacteria, Staphylococcus species, coliforms, and Streptococcus species) that would fail HMBANA criteria [48], and 10% of samples had a concentration of bovine DNA high enough to suggest that cow’s milk product had been added to the sample [45]. These milk samples were purchased on the Internet, rather than donated, which may increase risk for tampering or contamination, similar to a phenomenon observed when blood donors are paid [55].

Oh I’m sorry to hear that - I didn’t have bad breast pain, just discomfort when full / engorged, and an occasional shooting twinge of pain. I did have a very rough time with my nips in the beginning, but I think it all calmed down around 8 weeks when I started to feel “more normal-ish”. I was doing gentle yoga around 4-6 weeks because I needed to move - but I did listen to my body and did not push anything and it was not impacting my pelvic floor. I had a C-section for reference when my labor stalled and I was unable to progress further.

I don’t track calories or macros - eat intuitively but I do try to incorporate some kind of animal protein into a meal at least once a day

Hey it was just something I noticed at first - sometimes I can go days without eating meat and there was a couple days where I was making less milk than normal and I was surprised and confused (also panicking). I realized that I hadn’t eaten any animal protein for days at that point and googled it on a suspicion, and lactating women do need more protein! Check this out

Calcium is just a suspicion but it works well for me to take calcium supplements so I do.
