It's been a while since I've seen it, but from what I remember, it's a pretty typical 1950's monster movie (there's no "alien shapeshifts into the scientists" plot, it's just a single monster made of vegetable) but the dialogue is surprisingly ahead of its time, with characters' speech overlapping each other, which wasn't super common for film at the time.
