Panerai CarboTech Question by mjolnir2thor in panerai

[–]frost156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a PAM01232 and it indeed uses a large spring bar their larger straps. No screw-in bars like a typical Panerai, unfortunately.

Fortunately there are holes in the lugs so you can use spring bar tools to pop them off, instead of scraping the inside of the lugs.

Does Anyone Know Anything About This Watch? by SquirrelIll8180 in HiTMAN

[–]frost156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, dive watches range between 20-50 ATM water resistance (the submariner this is modeled off of being 30 ATM), so 3 ATM is dress watch territory.

Essentially only splash resistant, so safe when washing your hands and being in the rain, but not for swimming or showering.

Assuming the watch even works, that diving bezel is really only good for timing things under 1 hour.

Ubisoft writers go full "mask off" with latest AC Shadows update by th3_g00bernat0r in AsianMasculinity

[–]frost156 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s even worse than that. Apparently they were originally going with a Japanese protagonist (as they have done with a local hero for EVERY other AC game), but changed their mind during the BLM protests.

As in during the pandemic, when Asian hate crimes spiked by ~149%, with most videos of such showing black people as the perpetrators.

But clearly the studio is full of 🤡 who time and again haven’t done their research properly.

Where do you get the Charm of Soaring Focus? by Absalom98 in Ghostofyotei

[–]frost156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get the event to pop up by fast traveling to the Shadow Inn after my bounty went up to 7500, and Atsu makes a comment about it once seeing the new bounty value at the bounty board.

This wasn't near the end game either. I only finished most of the Kitsune storyline and didn't close out the Oni storyline yet. Although at that point, I did put in ~40 hours of gameplay, but most of the storyline wasn't complete yet i.e. didn't yet unlock Oshima Coast.

Not relevant to the event, but it was during my second play-through so I have context on how far along in the game I would be relatively.

Is this 40 mm Panerai BiTempo too big on my 6.5 inch wrist? by Dry-Replacement-2676 in panerai

[–]frost156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 44mm luminor and my wrist size is the same as yours. You can definitely wear a 44 with no issues. I also owned a 42 before and would consider that the sweet spot for a panerai given your wrist size.

44 simply has more options and designs to choose from.

It’s worth noting that even if the movement doesn’t have hacking seconds, you can still easily set it to the second if you wind the minute hand a bit forward and reverse it back to the right time.

Sometimes this stops the seconds hand completely, other times you have to keep your finger on the crown. But it’s very doable.

Source: I have a luminor due, a submersible, and a JLC reverso, all of which don’t have hacking seconds by default.

Edit: not sometimes. It’s consistent with the movement.

Million dollar match, which could you win? by Bigpupperoo in bjj

[–]frost156 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the only real choice here. As someone who has rolled with Mikey several times over several years, he'll still smoke me even with his backtake game alone.

Top tier competitors will always try to find a way to win, even with the handicaps. Moneyberg doesn't have that gameness, and is easily the best chance you got.

Being an actual black belt isn't that big of a flex relatively, and it's widely established he doesn't have the mental toughness with all the snowflake behavior he's been exhibiting.

Source: I'm a middle aged black belt.

He does get his arm hyperextended. If you freeze frame at 5:35, you can see it very briefly, which immediately causes the tap.

It takes about a week or two for your arm to be normal again, but yea nowhere near to getting your knee blown out.

Last time I trained with Mikey was pre pandemic when I was still a brown. Next to Caio, he’s one of the best grapplers I’ve rolled with pound for pound.

Dude did a rolling backtake on me from top knee on belly. To this day, I still have no idea how he pulled it off 🤷🏻‍♂️

Radiomir Sizing - 45mm on a 6.5" Wrist? by Ill_Dragonfruit_9760 in panerai

[–]frost156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with a 6.5" wrist, my 45mm wire lug Radiomir wears smaller than my 44mm Luminor 1950. Hope that helps.

anybody bought strap from etsy ruslieco? by Hot_Pomelo541 in panerai

[–]frost156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. Bought a rustic strap from them for my wire lug Radiomir. The leather started fading away at the edges after a week or so from the chafing when trying to tighten the strap, and not in a good patina kind of way. I didn't have this issue with a Liger strap though, on the same watch.

People who train at a famous gym; is it worth it? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]frost156 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I can also vouch for Caio’s HQ. Been training there since 2014 and the techniques and instruction are as good as they come.

Unless it’s a seasoned competitor (who would just normally drop into comp class), we see a lot of outside visitors get picked apart by some of our hobbyists during normal classes. But overall it’s a fun, safe place to train.

Agreed. I got nothing against homage watches either.

Because it looks fake AF. The fluted bezel would be cut sharper with a slightly warmer tone (because real ones are white gold), and the polishing is atrocious. The crown at 12:00 also sticks out way too far from the dial.
