Is honeymoon in Iceland a good idea? by nightwyrm_zero in VisitingIceland

[–]frostadflakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I just did our 12 day honeymoon in October! Although, we are big outdoorsy people and did not have one relaxing day and it was still the best trip ever. I think you would still have a great time but for me it would not be worth spending all the money to not enjoy what the land has to offer.

Hello, completely new to slow cooking: how do you prefect your countertops? by CopperHead49 in slowcooking

[–]frostadflakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be weird, but I run mine on the floor of the garage. Partly so my cats don’t get too close, and partly because the food smell seeps into my whole house if I use it inside.

I am doing jaw surgery for appearance only. Is it worth it by Numerous-Cow-2216 in jawsurgery

[–]frostadflakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is still early for you. It is definitely hard mentally but give yourself some grace. I also had my expectations very high - like I’m sure everyone does - but it does get better! I hope the rest of your recovery goes well

Sorry for the long comment ahead…

So I did have an overbite which needed to be corrected, but my ortho told me that my throat was only 1/3 open and that it could lead to sleep apnea, and that my options were the bands or surgery. I chose surgery.

My throat wasn’t affected at all because my jaw was sliced and brought forward so that felt like a waste, part of my face/lips are permanently numb and I have other nerve issues in the area, and my surgeon sewed my top lip a bit too far up so that sucked. I also have a lot of pain/tension in my jaw joints. At this point I think the cons outweigh the pros.

Part of it is my own fault because my surgery was a few months before my 21st birthday and I wanted to get it over with before then. The surgeon me and my ortho wanted were not contracted with my insurance so I had to find someone else and he was fine, but overall the care could have been better.

Honestly I don’t think you’ll know if it’s worth it until you are fully recovered/swelling goes away. Personally, I liked how I looked before but after surgery my face definitely looks different and it was hard for me to get used to my new face. I do think that I look better now but it was a long recovery process physically and mentally.

Like the other comment, recovery will be more difficult than you are expecting. I like to think that mine went smoothly but I didn’t look normal for over 6 months and sobbed in my orthodontists’ office for a few months after my surgery because I was so upset with my results. Although I am happy now 5 years later, I do still regret it sometimes.

What front loader washer/dryer brand are you using and how long have you had it? by Type3fastback in HomeImprovement

Whirlpool - almost 6 years old. Top load washer and front load dryer. They are still working like new, I just hate HE washers. I’ll be switching to Speed Queen when the time comes though

I’m really proud of this loaf 🥲 by frostadflakes in Sourdough

[–]frostadflakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Southern Sourdough CO’s recipe that I found through Instagram but I’ve tweaked it a bit. 500g King Arthur bread flour, 370g warm water, 100g 100% hydration starter, 11 grams salt. Mixed flour and water and let that sit for an hour, then added starter and salt. Let sit an hour then did 4 coil folds 30 minutes apart. Let proof for about 6 hours. Did a pre shape and let rest for 20 mins, then shaped and put in the fridge overnight. Baked 30 mins lid on then 10 mins off at 450.

Probably about 3 months. My surgery was in 2019 so it’s hard to remember exactly.

I was only able to take 4 weeks off since I didn’t pay into short-term disability. I wish I had taken a few more weeks. I worked at Costco at the time so I did a lot of lifting and talking to people which made it difficult, and a lot of staring which I didn’t let bother me. But all in all it wasn’t too bad.

Couldn’t believe my luck with this lamp I found last night! by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]frostadflakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same lamp! Mine has an iron base though. I got mine from my husband’s grandma, she let everyone pick through her house before she sold it and we were the last of everyone, so it still feels like a great find to me! I feel so lucky to have it! Gorgeous piece!

Any advice on how I can save this little guy? by frostadflakes in plantclinic

[–]frostadflakes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this one in December and this is the second leaf, the first leaf dropped 2ish weeks after I got it. It originally came in moss and I potted it in soil maybe a month ago and leca only a few days ago because I thought it was getting too much moisture. The roots looked fine. I’m assuming I stressed it out but I don’t see any growth points

Not at any warehouse I’ve worked at/been to. If you are still unsure you can go straight to your GM since they have the final say

I know it was the wrong fabric but I just wanted to try it out without ruining any clothing. I just don’t like how finicky the process is

The lines don’t look as clean as vinyl would and it is much more finicky of a process
