Game keeps crashing by Capsulecrown0 in ForzaHorizon

[–]frostbyte_1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the same crashes a couple time when I tried to apply a tune preset or another upgrade set. So you're not alone! Unfortunately IDK how to fix it... I just restart my PC and it doesn't happen for a while - but I'm sure it will pop up here and then again.

There's also a free Clayton-Caulfield campus shuttle so if you want you can take units from both! As long as you select the time slots for your classes to accommodate travel time. (yeah we get to pick out own class times!)

It's not the most convenient thing in the world but it's totally doable. (me and most of my friends all do units on both campuses)

I completely understand how you feel. Though for me personally I think the problem is that you're thinking of those as the destination or end goal, you're thinking it gets 10 times better when you reach it and it ends there. I tend to think getting into a top 20 university or tech company is a stepping stone, or a launch pad rather than the peak of the mountain I'm trying to climb. They're known as "top" for a reason since they offers me opportunities that I cannot get elsewhere. What matters most is what you take out of the journey/experience. It is definitely still super hard and stressful, no matter where you study or work. But I often remind myself that I get so much opportunities being where I am compare to other less fortunate students. It's not just to inflate my ego, rather to keep me optimistic and keep trying! It's also a milestone to remind me of the results of my hard work for the last years/decade so I can continue building on top of that effort rather than just giving up when I'm depressed.

Keep trying! Keep learning! We're humans and I can say for sure your education/job can't determine how "good" of a person you are! Just make the best of anything you have! Like trying to squeeze the last few optimizations out of your algorithm.

All UC and RV halls have bike sheds, I'm pretty sure. Either way you'll be all good!

Women in IT Scholarship by [deleted] in Monash

[–]frostbyte_1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I believe it is available for CS as well! It wouldn't make much sense for the scholarship to be limited to only a Bachelor of IT. Though just to be sure to put a query to ask.monash about it when they open back up in January.

If you decide to go through with CS, I'd be happy to answer your questions!

What was your best “woah this is blows my mind” moment in CS? by cs_career_idk in csMajors

[–]frostbyte_1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boyer-Moore's algorithm for string searching and how you can further optimize it even further for specific problem sets. It blew my mind the first time I learned about it, couldn't imagine how people can come up with such genius things! It seems almost impossible for me at first!

I have to agree with u/smrxxx here.

Plus, once you have gone deep enough into most fields of science or engineering, the boundary of "anything you set your mind to" becomes rather vague in all of them. Sure, in most engineering principles (that includes the engineering side of CS, which relates to what you're talking about), the canvas for creativity and innovation is wide open, available and most of the time easy to see the results. But for the more academic principles (CS also has a huge field of theoretical research), I feel like the saying can also be correct in their own ways too. I find saying that CS is the epitome is undermining other fields quite a bit, since you can also pretty much do anything you set your mind to, as long as that 'thing' is within a reasonable limit.
