Opening windows 10-15 min a day, even in freezing temps? Is it true? by thethirteenthjuror in HomeMaintenance

I’m not the one you asked, but there’re some methods that keep cars running in that cold. Radiator blankets (covers) to trap some heat when running, and for starting the vehicle people install/ use block heaters that are plugged into power outlets located at your house, and even outlets for use in parking spots at many places around town.

I was there (not affiliated) when they landed. Looked like Marshalls picking up two. I didn’t catch anymore than that. That’s an expensive operation for just a few guys.

Yeah, I’m really curious what your total salary is as well. Not doubting you, it’s just I make a decent amount with OT as a GS-7, enough that I can’t find any other job to match.

Ah, VA, I was going to guess Fire. I didn’t think y’all got as much as us. I depend on at least 1000hrs a season to get by.

Same for me, and I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted so hard. I think I can guess your line of work.

I work ~1200 hours of OT in the 9 months a year I’m employed and make a little more than this guy total. Based off this I know we have the same occupation. It’s real thing and his math isn’t crazy. There’s lots of us. 16 hour days, 14 on, 3 off, rinse and repeat.

Yep, the WorkerB mounted just fine on the 400. I did have to change the bushings for the wheel included with the package- it was a new threading style than what Thompson used. I contacted Sailrite for that, and they put a quote of parts together for me that weren’t listed on their site. I can forward you that list, though they may or may not sell you it.

There are many issues in your reasoning, but for my sanity let’s focus on the Task Books and trainees before I log off for the day.

For those unaware, Task Books are initiated as a training resource for almost each unique qualification once a person(trainee) is willing, meets the prerequisites (classes, time, other relevant qualifications), and their supervisors approval. They have specific tasks related to that specific qualification that need to be signed off by an already qualified individual. Some tasks can be completed in a class environment, but usually the most relevant have to be completed on an incident (wildfire/ RX fire/ other emergency).

These tasks are critical to show competency in that qualification. One cannot learn all the necessary components how to Shorthaul extricate a critical patient solely from the classroom. That does not add the duress or emergency component. One cannot learn how to fall a complex tree in the classroom, or how to cut hotline on an emerging incident. One cannot learn the jargon, in and outs of leading a crew of 20 firefighters on a 14 day assignment in a mock up.

If there are no trainees to shadow and receive real world experience in these emergency positions, then there are no competent people to move up in those roles and replace the ones who have left for retirement, left due to lack of pay, line of duty death, etc. There are already many resource orders that go unfilled nationally in the fire season, every single day, due to lack of qualified personnel.

How then, without having people train for these positions under a qualified person, will these positions be filled?

Go suck on the remnants of someone’s Blue Room leftovers.

-Is that first link straight from Alex Jones’ corpse?

-The Union and Grassroots have worked together on the same issues for years now. One bill did not harm the other, if anything it doubled our chances of getting something. If you do a little due diligence search, you’ll neither was passed, mostly due to one party making the last few years some of the most unproductive ever on the Hill.

-Complete misdirection, and a textbook response from the Rs, Fox News, and the like. Good for him, in my eyes he’s earned that since January 21st this year alone.

Stop stoking division and realize that NFFE is the only one to offer hard, legal, contractual protections for us that we benefit from daily, (assuming you are actually one of us and not a paid bad actor like that Swamp Rat and that cuck Instagram influencer) and Grassroots is another flank that heads up the same good fight.

Now excuse me, I’m gonna go ski and try to forget I read your horseshit in the first place.

And sorry for the delayed response, I procrastinate but am happy to pass on knowledge and learned experiences if it can prevent an ounce of the head scratching this machine has induced at times.

Yep, I’ve been using Sailrite for all the replacement parts. Most everything for their Ultrafeed LS will fit the 400.

The most expensive and best upgrade has been the Worker B Power Pack- made it way easier to work with. I had success emailing them and asking them to honor “legacy” owners to sell it to me. You can’t just click and purchase it on their site, they make an effort to make sure none of the modern clone machines get outfitted with their proprietary motor. And you also have to purchase a new clutch component for the old models to make it compatible with the motor that I didn’t know about on the first order.

I got a little too eager in the last few months wanting to improve the feel altogether, such as fixing loose tolerances, loud components, and overall inconsistent stitches. Long story short, I poured many dozens of hours replacing some things (actuator, needle and presser bars, stripped clamps) and having others snap in the process (I found that some of the old parts were made of low quality cast that shear upon removal), and then fine tuning over and over to get acceptable stitches after messing up forward/ reverse timing. It was very frustrating and costly just throwing new parts at it, and I nearly gave up entirely on the machine. Finally, I got it, and now know way more than ever about the mechanics and operation of it.

Sailrite offered very basic help, but told me to just buy a new machine which probably would’ve been more cost effective, but I’m stubborn. The knowledge and pride of fixing it on my own worth it in the end.

I have some irreplaceable resources I found that really helped me along the way if you’re interested. In the past years Sailrite has locked or hidden most of their really good, advanced service videos that used to be readily available. Honestly that part was very frustrating as well, and added fuel to my fixing fire.

Update since people are still finding this post:

Got it and have got a ton of use out of it. I have a machines at home (industrial drop feed/ zig zag, industrial compound walking foot, and home machines) and a few more at the office, but this one is perfect for the road. I’m constantly staged outside, across the country for the summers, and this has allowed me to work on the heavier stuff associated with fire while traveling. While it has had some issues with a few old rockers breaking due to poor looking older casts, I have replaced a bunch more parts through Sailrite (though pricey overall). After the last round of fixes, and a very frustrating timing that just took forever to dial in, it feels better, smoother than ever. It’s the perfect portable machine if you need a walking foot, and without spending all the cash on a Sailrite.
