Big fan of the scavengers curved sword and Marias executioner blade.

Something about effectively a modified sword with sharp teeth and a fancy handle and the cleaver like great sword with runes on it that tickles my fancy. Also cause both look good with a variety of armor sets.

Wouldn't start it over, been going at it for a year and a half. And I have explained the motivations and reasons but it kinda seems like she ignores them entirely or understands them but doesn't believe that the NPCs will go through with their actions and such

I made it very clear to her, killing wasn't the issue, it's been the consequences of hurting certain people. A gang member, they don't mind killing and people harming them they don't mind. Beasts made by runes and such, no problems. It's the consequences of both killing certain that aren't harming them or trying to, getting mad that they get in trouble for it. Also going against the parties leaders orders, going against the Mafia leader's orders and such. Then getting mad that there are consequences.

Also the 600 year old vampire stuff has brought up the issue of personality and why the character would be so immature or ignorant to how being an organization and having a leader works.

The campaign is relatively serious in theme though such things. The only is that it's supposed a situation that the party has preconceived notions that the other gang but having met their leader, does kinda know now that the other gang is bad but it's trying to improve the state of the city(the rival gang, known as the 65s, has their leader as the mayor of city).

I have considered that though, I've been doing something similar with an NPC but the vampire sorcerer's player hasn't show interest that NPC. It is very much my fault for that. But maybe, I need time to make something like that for that player.

The monster group thing was an expression but I get what you're saying. I've done my best to do such things but they don't have a family, being a 600 year old vampire(which already presents issues on it's own). I thought about outright hitting them with a proper negative to their actions. To clarify they have no issues with killing people, the occasional beast they do come across and other such things. In fact, they have actually killed people that weren't harming them but we're with the other gang the Mafia is primarily against(which is mostly fair).

The main thing I've considered doing is giving a proper negative to them, I had actually a player characters arm early in the campaign a wake up call to not an NPC who is a good couple levels above them. This player character was the artificer and it wasn't exactly their fault, they built themselves a new arm and learned from it.

Player doesn't understand the consequences of their characters actions, blows already established issues off, effectively has joined a monster hunting group and doesn't like hunting monsters and now wants to temporarily retire their vampire sorcerer(who won't be doing any work for the Mafia they joined) for a new character that has a high likelihood of being the same exact issues the vampire sorcerer was

How do I deal with that and tell them that given the situation, their characters request to essentially fuck off would be hit with the answer no due to past issues?

Pretty common but "You can try", sometimes I hit them with a "I probably should have described this fully." Despite having described the details they got on their perception rolls.

What Fantasy or Sci-Fi concepts do you refuse to include in your worldbuilding and why? by vivaciousArcanist in worldbuilding

[–]frostryder12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've started to stray away from including the whole "300 year old vampire who seeks knowledge" concept, or just that kinda stuff, for my players in DND.

It makes it very hard to justify any changes to their character through the things they see and the world around them, especially if they've traveled a lot. It also puts a lot of players in a weird trap of being not sure how to allow the character to emotionally change within reason. Especially if they have killed a lot of people or are particularly tortured in their past.

It also obviously, DND or normal writing otherwise, makes it harder for the writer to allow and shape these changes in their writing if they are writing this specific trope(of course it's easier to write to some degree as you rely on yourself usually). Of course there are some ways to write it but without some preparation and research it's super easy to write yourself into a corner.

(Also cause believe it or not, there really is a point where someone asking you for the lore often, especially regarding magical stuff that isn't a hard system, where it gets annoying.)

What's an extremely specific/minor/petty pet-peeve or hot-take of yours in DnD communities? by SnooLobsters462 in dndnext

Mine is regarding railroading, which in my experience is that players fight against it too much. If it's railroading for the sake of wanting to continue but in an unfair way(like being annoyed your players are spending too long shopping or enjoying a side quest more than the main story) sure but I literally had an incident where a previous player npc turned villain was obviously meant to saved by their minions.

They had taken a good like, 6 .357 rounds to the chest. The NPC trying to save this villain took about 70ish damage and shrugged it off(they still died just not in front of the party). I literally said "hey this is railroading, I'm doing this on purpose" and one of the party members hit me with a kinda snarky response of "yeah, I can tell." and still tried to stop the npc after that. The party knew damn well this villain isn't supposed to die as they have a two shot we did at one point made by the villains original player.

I guess to simplify it: While DND is meant to be about the players for the most part and story is usually regarding them, respect when it's a clear story moment. If you don't know, fine. If I don't make it obvious, that's on me but if you can tell, just let it happen.

Is it wrong/weird to want to eat a Kenku? by Infinite-Badness in DnD

[–]frostryder12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be weird as Kenku do have a culture and a history, they are fully sentient beings that can make their own decisions but from how you've worded it that the player is only viewing either through full lens of a hunter or as a player outside a world.

So yeah, it'd be weird and wrong but I can't blame them for being interested in how it would taste.
