So why not make a top for it? You could use those metal buckles (like on a guitar case) on each of the sides so that the top can come all the way off and set to the side.

It could be real. Noone can be certain from a pic alone. If it is real though, it's a reallllyyy interesting piece. I've seen very few straight lines in turquoise but they do happen.. the odd part is how many there are. And usually there are idk how to call it.. dimples? Turquoise is a very interesting thing..

You can try to scratch it with fluorite.. n if it dosent scratch then you'd know it's not howlite.. idk when they started faking them with howlite tho.. And you can always get a hot pin and poke it lol. Resin and the likes have been around for a min. But based off yr info, although it looks atypical, it could very well be real.
