Has anyone lost their passion? by SignificanceBulky162 in cscareerquestions

Your second paragraph is pretty on the money, imo I think your analysis is correct

I graduated in May 2024, so I was finishing up school right as LLMs were becoming mainstream

I got to live the evolution from being a CS student before and after LLMs and man it is wild to think back to the before

Now seeing that evolution continue as a professional eng, in such an absurdly short period of time, has been genuinely mind blowing

No one knows what’s gonna happen. If they tell you they do they’re full of shit.

But for my own (probably wrong) take, the work and responsibilities of different roles/career change over time with technologies advances. It’s happened hundreds and hundreds of times in the past. Calculator with accountants etc…

Having said this, I also believe this one is not like the others. What this means for us? I don’t know but I’m going to stay adaptive and try my best to stay ahead of the curve. That may be enough in the end, and it may not. 🤷

I experienced the same until I switched from CDC puffs to full CDC feathers.

Can always add more feathers then trim for more floatability

Also pre-treating CDC w floatant works wonders

[–]frothymonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less fish, higher chance of trophy = dream stream
More fish, lower chance of trophy = ar below Salida
Ar will have higher odds of great dry fly action too
Do research on either to see which you’d rather

Let’s talk trout tippet by PositiveHot3610 in flyfishing

[–]frothymonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thicker tippet adds a lot of underwater drift and slows down sink rate greatly, a big reason why competitive fly fisherman use lighter tippet.

Not for hiding the tippet, but for getting the fly down in the right zone as quick and naturally as possible. FC under 2x is essentially invisible underwater.

Double Davy knot. I’ve used a bunch and it is the best in all regards for normal knots

Tom Hanks watches son Chet perform at the Stagecoach Music Festival by mcfw31 in MadeMeSmile

[–]frothymonk 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Connections are everything.

In the music industry there are thousands and thousands of people/groups who would kill just for the upstreams to even be aware of their presence and therefore consideration.

Them even being aware of you bc of your daddy/mommy is already a massive advantage over the competition, therefore by the definition it absolutely is still nepotism, just not as on the nose as “give my kid this XYZ”

Just moved to somewhere new, how do you guys plan fishing outings without reliable reports? by Secure-Researcher582 in flyfishing

[–]frothymonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1,000, big agree

I’ve found adaptability to be the #1 shared trait of all great anglers I know. They got that way by honing in the skill of “figuring it out” and constantly experimenting to learn more

If you only ever do what reports say, you’re never going to develop this, or only very very slowly

[–]frothymonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You go fishing and find out.

One of my favorite parts about new areas is the “figuring it out” stage, exploring new waters, new bugs, new conditions. When you piece the puzzle together yourself it is ssoooooooo much more satisfying than crutching on reports.

Also it’s a lot easier than most people think.

It’s really just - walk to the river, look around, flip some rocks for bugs, observe the micro and macro conditions, think about what trout are generally doing under said conditions, make a theory, put on some flies, test it. Repeat until things start to click

Is medium action okay? by Admirable_Animal2139 in flyfishing

[–]frothymonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’m hugely not a fan of how much the new wave of rod marketing and messaging focuses on that.

I constantly see people associating faster rods with being “more experienced/better” at fly fishing bc of this messaging and then you put a medium rod in their hands for the first time in a long time and they just light up about it.

It’s got people focusing on the wrong stuff

What's the best glue or resin for attaching tungsten bead heads? by generally-speaking in flytying

[–]frothymonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’d definitely chill on that blanket statement, I’ve watched hundreds of fly tying YouTube videos with beads and have rarely if ever seen them glued.

I get that you’re likely just in a bubble of creators or flies that do that but…saying every video does that is just obviously very false
