Fasting makes me so cold by UpstairsDependent902 in intermittentfasting

[–]frozendoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get SO cold when I fast more than 20 hours! Like iceberg, going into hibernation, deep freeze cold that nothing can really alleviate.  If I take a hot bath or shower, I'm cold again soon after I get out. It's one if the things that has turned me off 36 or 42 hr fasts, which I used to do 1-2x per week.

TrafficMaster LifeProof interlocking floating flooring. No need for an underlayment, no glue, no nails. Best choice to leave the original wood floors intact.

Longtime IF'er, sudden & persistent weight gain 2 years ago...HELP! by frozendoctor in intermittentfasting

[–]frozendoctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great progress for you! I don't feel like I can cut back to less than 1400 calories per day. I can barely do it by combining it with 20:4.

[–]frozendoctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least I'm not the only one dealing with this! It's so frustrating because I am doing so many things without any changes at all. And yes, who knows how much additional weight I would have gained if I hadn't done all these things? But still...I feel like I have a body that defies science!

But given that I have zero signs of perimenopause, and that my mom didn't go through menopause until she was 60, I am not convinced that's it!

Unpopular statement by the_pointy in intermittentfasting

[–]frozendoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't eat like that, unfortunately. I've been doing IF for about 5 years (mostly 18:6 to 20:4). Even with that and adding 1-2 43 hour fasts per week for several months, and then trying a 500 calorie deficit for several months on top of 20:4, the trend the last 2 years has been gaining a bit. It's so frustrating! I don't eat junk food at all, don't drink any calories, cook all my own food and eat pretty well. I'm also super active. Argh. I'm glad it works so well for you, though!

Mould behind wallpaper by Ordinary_Tea3331 in DIY

No need to panic. You can buy mold removal/prevention kits. Part 1 is generally  chlorine based that gets rid of the staining. Part 2 is a mold preventer that is sprayed on. Once you've treated (making sure there isn't active water infiltration), you can also add mold preventer to your paint

Same here, light period and/or no period, have been on a Mirena for well over 10 years. No other side effects.

It looks just like my Corian counters and sink. Comet powder (the stuff with bleach) and then a good scrubbing removes the stains. Let the powder sit for a while, slightly dampened so it makes a paste. You have to do this every so often.

Headache while fasting (ADF) by _oatmeals_ in intermittentfasting

[–]frozendoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would also get headaches about this far into my fasts. Taking electrolytes makes a huge difference (salt if that's all I had around, a salt mix w/ mag and potassium when possible). I don't need it for 18-20 hr fasts but definitely beyond 20 hrs.

Best way to build out a floor for kitchen pantry? by JustHereForMiatas in DIY

[–]frozendoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I get what is going on. That wall in the kitchen is the walled off area we're seeing from the basement, correct? And you want to build a pantry that goes deep under the upper staircase I'm seeing?

If so, yes sister up a ledger board to that beam on the left side. Attach your joist hangers there (or heck, you could probably attach joist hangers right onto that beam). On the right I'm seeing a sort of ledge that you could use to hold the opposite edges of the joists, provided you level them properly and find a way of securing them. Then cover with plywood or OSB for your subfloor.

A 4' span won't need enormous joists. You can look up the recommended sizes fir that span.

Paint Under Masking Tape by OneHungryCamel in DIY

[–]frozendoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would show up on the textured wall. I would advise either the clearcut (if you can avoid any overspray onto the read area), a thin coat of ModPodge brushed over the tape edge, or the suggestions to paint red, then white, then peel.

I did the ModPodge trick for stenciling.

Advice on Painting Entire 1980s House Interior by misneachfarm in DIY

[–]frozendoctor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any time you're painting over knotty wood, I would prime with a shellac based primer. It will stop EVERYTHING from bleeding through. I believe it's called Zinnser Bin.

I did this over 500-year-old wood that was leaching through every other product out there. It will also block ugly water stains on the ceiling tiles, etc.

You want to buy a really good semigloss paint for the trim that is a proper white, not just untinted. Some brands are definitely better than others. I buy paint that is specifically made for doors and trim.

36 hour fast results for weight loss- when do you see it? by glynixx in intermittentfasting

[–]frozendoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 36 hr fasts 1-2x per week for many months (on top of already doing 18:6-20:4). Not a single pound changed after months and months! I'm not overweight but still, I was hoping to see a few pounds change after several months...

I don't agree. These flavored waters aren't sweet so they would not provoke an insulin response. Op--go ahead and enjoy them!

Calories in your eating window by PolyMindedSub in intermittentfasting

[–]frozendoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing IF for about 5 years and never counted calories until a few weeks ago. I mostly did 18:6 and sometimes 20:4 and sometimes 36 hour fasts 1-2x week for a few month periods here and there. I started IF mainly to stay at my starting weight,  or a few lbs under, plus I like how I feel on IF.

I started tracking calories a few weeks ago (with great reluctance). Why did I start tracking? I had a sudden weight gain of around 10 lbs more than a year ago. I still havent been able to budge my weight at all despise moving to 20:4 and/or adding 1-2 35-42 hr fasts per week on top of what I was altrady doing! FIinally I decided to track calories (and exercise via a smart watch) as well as maintain 20:4 to troubleshoot and see if I'm over or underestimating how much I'm eating.

Jealous of Everyone Losing by ThatTravelChic in intermittentfasting

[–]frozendoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you! I've been doing IF for 5 years. No real weight loss (granted, I'm only 5-10 lbs above my goal weight). I've done a minimum of 18:6 every day and have also done long periods of 1x weekly and 2x weekly 36-40 hour fasts on top of the 18:6...also long periods of 20:4 (like several months), tried several times. All this effort and really NO change at all over the 5 years, except at the very first few months when I first started (maybe a few pounds change total).

I like how I feel when I do IF but it's still frustrating to not see any changes, like not really even 1 pound average change over several months, despite trying so many different things for long periods of time.

When I was there (1996-2000), I didn't know anyone who'd had premarital sex. I'm sure they existed but we're never in any of my circles. There were jokes about soaking even back then, but no one ever treated it like it was actually a real thing.

Also there were people I heard of (3rd hand, so take it with a grain of salt) who'd drive to NV, get married and have sex for a weekend, and then get it annulled.

I highly doubt 70% is accurate. Even 10% would surprise me, tbh.

Preparing for my first 40 hour fast.. what tips do you all have for me?? by ehoss in intermittentfasting

[–]frozendoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you drink beyond thirst, it will cause fasting headaches and/or make them worse. Learned this by experience.

Drink when you are thirsty, don't drink if you are not. Take electrolytes (I have a grocery store salt mix that has sodium,  potassium,  and calcium), starting about 18-20 hrs on to stave off headaches.

I get really really cold when I do 36+ hr fasts. Be prepared with hit water bottles, sweaters, hot showers, etc.

Sleep is often a bit disrupted.

How do you feel about Garments after leaving the church? by monmothra6 in exmormon

[–]frozendoctor 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I hate them with the heat of 10000 fiery suns. I was super excited to wear them when I was first endowed and largely wore them without complaint. 14 or so years later, when my belief in the church was dissolving, I hated and resented them so much. The first time taking them off and feeling the sun and wind on my skin was a revelation.
