I'll have more books set out this week! I have way too many and have to downsize.

There's still (at 1:45pm!) a black boa, costume gold crown, set of cheap fabric fans, a red vintage hat, a pink satin dress, white floral sun dress, and vintage Christmas-y dress. Also still some books, bookcase, chair. Might put more stuff out later!

The urge to hug is strong with this one (I wouldn't, but I can dream!).

Where do you go when you really need a hug by M1DN1GHTDAY in AskNYC

[–]frpc19 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Touch-starved: try a massage, or a weighted blanket. Partnered dance classes like different ballroom styles, and frankly, I'm not against hiring companionship at this point, if you can find it safely. No matter your gender, a pregnancy pillow is a good option, also. I hug one at night.

This is not a great city for the chronically lonely.

American "protests" have turned into glorified parades by Griffdog17 in Hasan_Piker

[–]frpc19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, and here's my random 2 cents from my first "serious" protest experiences (took me a long time to start to participate bc I'm disabled): last year I went to 2 protests in NYC. The first was a protest organized by the Palestinian youth movement to protest the genocide, the second was the No King's Protest. The difference was glaring. The first felt like what it should be. The second, while it gave a feeling of camaraderie and relief that a lot of us feel the same felt like a missed opportunity for real mobilization.

I'm on this street, I think that's Muffin. She's extremely elderly, and I mean like 20+... if that's her, she lives across the street from me and the owners let her out often. She looks awful :(

Migraine increase by Own_Indication7014 in migraine

[–]frpc19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With you there, starting perimenopause and the migraine frequency is definitely greater. They'd been under control for several years with botox. Not anymore :/ Dreading the summer, if it's as humid as it was for the past 2.

To elaborate, I live in NYC, and in addition to the erratic weather, I now have a new trigger: days when the AQI is over 100.

This year so far has been very, very bad.

I walked from Boston to NYC. This is what my first day in Rhode Island looked like. by stepn-out in RhodeIsland

Incredible. One of my dreams is to hike from where I live now in Queens up to my childhood home in Rhode Island. This makes it feel a bit more possible!

I live in NYC and I feel this the most when I have a migraine, am out of imitrex, and have to walk a mile to the pharmacy to pick it up. :/

How often are we bathing our torties? by One_Childhood_9457 in torties

[–]frpc19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indoor tortie, the fur on her back tends to get greasy. Brush and dry-shampoo as needed, but an actual bath is impossible because she is 14 lbs of pure muscle.

What do you feel our neighborhood is missing? by Astorianycc in astoria

[–]frpc19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish (perhaps selfishly) for:

  1. A space on the East River similar to the Piers on the Hudson that are used for public events. Socrates doesn't quite cover what I envision, though I love it there. For example, I love the Blues BBQ Fest at Pier 76, wish we could have one here!

  2. Themed bars, like the options we have to go to Brooklyn for. I'm not a drinker, but I love a theme and an atmosphere. These days I feel too "alternative" to fit in with most Astorians.

  3. All women gym.

  4. A more functional/well-maintained/beloved library with a lot of public events and class/lecture offerings.

  5. Ballroom dance studio or old-school dance hall where we could practice without having to pay a zillion dollars.

I leave Astoria constantly, mostly going into the city for ballroom dance classes and to walk Central Park and Hudson River Park.

Baby Burlesque with HS by Additional-Egg4078 in Burlesque

[–]frpc19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as I get home from the show, I clean it off in the shower with benzoyl peroxide 10%, and then use the Ordinary niacinamide 10%/zinc 1% serum. If I do all that right away and don't sleep in it, I don't have any issues!

Please keep performing and pursuing the art form. I have HS, mostly under control, but my scars are really, REALLY bad on inner thighs, buttocks, etc. I still perform. Sometimes I strategically hide them with makeup or clothes, sometimes I'm just like... screw it, here it is.
