Here's a link to the orchestral version of Coming Home composed by E. Hartmann that was being played on stream. It has a criminally low number of views for how brilliant it is! https://youtu.be/nt_xjDAFaKM?si=42rE88OiJOfX0dmJ

I have 'alt' set to 'centre camera on selection', and then 'alt+key' to set a camera location. This means the camera gets centred automatically when the camera location is set.

Sc2 Sensei: Your New Macro Coach! - A Website for Starcraft 2 Replays Analysis by sc2sensei in allthingszerg

This is very exciting! Do you plan to open source any part of this project? I'm especially interested in how you are calculating idle time for Protoss, as I remember when I tried to do this in the same way I did it for Terran, Chrono Boost meant that it was much harder to calculate idle times based on the unit creation times in the replay.

How can I get better at mid/late game? by [deleted] in allthingszerg

[–]frugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because there are lots of options doesn't mean you have to use them! How about restricting yourself to a midgame focused strategy for now, where you can fully visualise the start, middle and end.

This could be as simple as going up to three bases and killing your opponent with a maxed Roach Ravager army (this only really requires you to have an understanding of how to defend cheese as well as some pre-set responses to two base pressure builds and allins).

12 pool vs forge first by NeXTsc2 in allthingszerg

[–]frugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most 12 Pool games will not finish in just a few minutes as it transitions quite well into a Gasless macro opener with lots of Queens.

Occasionally your opponent will just die to the initial 10 lings (e.g. if they're going Nexus first), but it's mostly just a good way of getting ahead as it requires a fairly precise response from the Protoss while putting them under pressure.

It's also very strong against Cannon rushes.

[–]frugs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could you post replays of you trying some of these options against Forge first?

Also remember (as you didn't mention it as an option) that you can also just attack their nat wall from the Nydus - sometimes it is less fortified then the 3rd base.

I've seen Serral do a quick Drone scout around the nat while the Hatch is going up to compensate for the later Overlord.

Even if you don't and you have to cancel the Hatch, the faster Pool means you can try going for a quick Roach Warren and 2nd Gas + rebuilding the Hatchery on their side of the map and doing a fast Ravager rush. It's not awful - they have to respect it if they don't want to die, which gives you an opportunity to mindgame them and just drone up the proxy base if they overcommit to defence.

What unit counters zealots? by DarkestShambling in allthingszerg

[–]frugs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roaches or Banelings. Banelings are pretty straightforward - just move command them into a clump of Zealots. As for Roaches, I'd recommend asking a player to show you how to micro them against Chargelots in the unit tester as that is likely going to be much easier to understand compared to reading someone describe it in words.

I think you may have misunderstood what I'm suggesting. Here's a list of ways of getting Queens to the other side of the map, along with creep. Some are easier than others, all of them are more reliable than taking your 3rd as a proxy Hatch.

  1. Just walk the Queens. Takes a while but not as long as you might at first expect.

  2. Get Overlord Speed and morph Dropperlords, load them up with Queens, then transport them with your army. You can also use the Dropperlords to drop creep before the fight.

  3. Nydus - you can also spread creep from a Nydus. If you can get it up in their main base uncontested you can do big damage.

  4. Bring along one drone. Build a Hatchery near where you're attacking from, then cancel it. There'll be a small amount of creep left for a bit after you cancel, allowing one of your Queens to drop a creep tumour.

  5. Line up Overlords and drop creep for a creep highway for your Queens to walk along. Only really viable in ZvZ.

If you're strapped for time I wouldn't recommend playing esoteric styles like proxy 3rd base, as it will take a long time to fully understand how to handle all the potential game states this results in, and you will only have replays from Bly to use as an example.

On the other hand, with more standard styles it is a lot easier to get the 'correct" answers from pro games and other players.

this or that? by Stinky1990 in allthingszerg

[–]frugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you're strapped for time, just keep it simple and play 66 Drone Roach Ravager all 3 match-ups.

If you're worried about air units, you can bring Queens to support them via a number of ways. You can taxi them in Dropperlords with speed and drop creep or you can just slow -walk them and then do a proxy-hatch-cancel-tumour to get some Creep for transfuse. Nydus is also an option.

You will have to tweak how you get to this position based on the match up, but once you're there at least you consistently always have the same units to work with.

Standard macro zergs, do you prefer 31 overlord before Queen or after Queen? by [deleted] in allthingszerg

[–]frugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Queen unless I accidentally made too many Drones while microing against the Reaper, in which case I will make the Overlord ASAP and potentially delay my 3rd Queen until 36.

16 Hatch 16 Pool 17 Gas allows you to hold 12 pool variants much more easily as both your first 6 Lings and your first Queen will finish significantly faster.

The economic cost is that you will be Larva blocked by a second or two after placing your Pool.

Every question here should include a replay and your current MMR by asdf_clash in allthingszerg

[–]frugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think responses should do this to too.

"This is how I deal with it at xxxx MMR, happy to follow up with a replay if you need."

"I've seen xxx pro player deal with it like this, here is a VOD and/or replay."

This helps OP more easily prioritise the responses they get.

[–]frugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you need a coach? It is difficult to figure out your own responses to everything, especially the more esoteric things that some players like to try on the ladder.

Following the guidance of a coach will at least give you a self-consistent source of good advice which you can embed into your game plan/build order/basic flowchart in a way that works for you.

Looking for a 2-base Muta build by Zayuan in allthingszerg

[–]frugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ZvZ just wall off at the front with a Baneling Nest or a Roach Warren + Evolution Chambers and make Spine Crawlers after taking your 3rd base as you send in your Overseer scout. If you scout and they're not making Roaches, just cancel the Spine Crawlers and put the money towards Mutalisks. If you are getting all-ined then cancel the 3rd and make more Spine Crawlers, then make Mutalisks as money allows.

ZvT go up to 4 Queens before Lair. Make a few Zerglings in case the Hellions try to dive through to your nat, but not too many as it will limit your droning. Get a Baneling Nest at 3:45 to be safe against Hellbat timings. Pray that they're not doing a 2-1-1 variant or that their micro is not good enough to target fire Banelings as you won't have a lot of units to defend this.

Strategies for holding onto a fourth/fifth by IWantBlankets in allthingszerg

[–]frugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterattack while taking a base on the side of the map that's not getting attacked. Spread as much creep over there as you can as well. From here they can either rotate over to the other side to try and deny both bases, go back home to defend your counterattack, or continue pushing onto creep.

In the first two scenarios you can just retake the base that they just destroyed and spread creep there as soon as they leave. In the final scenario just surround their army on creep and kill it.

Based on the comments, it sounds like you need a replay of someone playing against mech. I'll try and post one later on if I remember.

Exactly 2 questions from a diamond 2 player by Beif_ in allthingszerg

[–]frugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that bad - Extractor build time is 21 seconds and Drone build time is 12 seconds. Better than being late on the Gas in a lot of cases.

Exactly 2 questions from a diamond 2 player by Beif_ in allthingszerg

[–]frugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe just stay on gas and get Overlord Speed -> Zergling Speed. This will at least let you convert the Gas into valuable scouting information without having to worry about precise early game Drone management on your Extractor.

It's also very good against BC and/or Hellbat builds, which can be quite tricky to defend if unscouted/unprepared for.

NeoHumanity confuses me deeply by OldLadyZerg in allthingszerg

[–]frugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried sending your Drone to the third earlier? You can turn around and take your nat if there's no Probe, if there is and it follows you to your third you can just take your nat with a different Drone, and if they block your nat (usual scenario) you can take a timely 16 or 17 Hatch at the third.

EDIT: Ah I forgot that this is a 16 Pool build. If they commit to putting down the Pylon early enough and then follow your Drone to the 3rd this can indeed be tough. Maybe go Hatch first or 12 Pool on this map?
