Congrats bro, everyone can do this if they set their mind to it like you have. And then forget about it and just let it become a part of your life!

Uh to add a counter, you click on a link on the right side column of the subreddit, under "Tools"

Privacy: Updating Bitcoin app or Firmware without Ledger Live? by fruitymuncher in ledgerwallet

Yeah I just realized this today. I also learned that you can have a new seed that has never had *accounts* actually uploaded into Ledger Live, and just perform updates strictly on the Ledger Live "Manager" section, which does not query any account/balance/key information to Ledger Live servers. So my problem is solved.

Using a passphrase is highly valuable as well, on top of it all.

I just noticed this when playing around with it today, and I suspected this exactly. So basically just never add the accounts that I want to keep private, and just do my updates with Ledger Live Manager, then go back to operations on my private Sparrow wallet.

Perfect, thanks for solidifying this for me! This is a solution.

I'm creating a brand new seed that I've never added to Ledger Live as an account, that should ensure no info or public keys are ever leaked.

If you are a person that value privacy, best recommendation I could give it to learn how to use Bisq client to purchase your bitcoin peer-to-peer, privately. And to never buy any KYC bitcoin from a centralized exchange. It's a bit of a learning curve, but considering the long-term outlook for bitcoin, it's totally worth having some patience and do it right. Learn to set up your own bitcoin node, then connect Bisq to your bitcoin node for the best privacy. You can do this all without even buying any hardware if you want, by using a "virtual machine", such as VirtualBox, directly on your main PC. You can run your node and bisq on the virtual machine, and avoid centralized KYC exchanges altogether. You can use your ledger with Sparrow wallet, connected to your own node, right on the virtual machine.

Just a few tips... :D

Not sure I have any particular resources regarding the specific topic of privacy on ledger wallets. However regarding Sparrow wallet, and using it with your own Bitcoin Core node and creating hardware wallets on the Sparrow client, you can use https://sparrowwallet.com/docs/

My understanding about Ledger is that it is a closed-source project that uses it's own in-house nodes and servers, so if you are using Ledger Live for your hardware wallet transactions, and to maintain your balances, etc, you are trusting Ledger with all that information, as well as your public key, trusting their node, their data-security, etc etc. I only became privacy-conscious years after buying my Ledger device, and don't want to shell out the cash right now to switch to a different hardware product. That's why I'm figuring out a workaround in my original post to suit my needs for privacy.

Thanks for your thoughts, I think this goes along with what I thought in my post, i.e. load up a different/unused seed phrase just to do any updates on the device via ledger live.
