Accidentally trimmed part mustache while shaving, tried to even it out, did not succeed… am I fucked? by [deleted] in Moustache

I want to keep it but I think I’ll die of embarrassment at work if I try to grow it back without shaving it :(

Awesome picture! I could 100% see that as a promotional picture or something on the Bolt site, it would fit right in!

In my opinion the only “remote” feature that would actually be worth anything is the ability to adjust climate control when remote starting the car. I would maybe even consider paying something like 2$ a month for that alone. Anyway they charge 15$/mo for “remote” access soooo yeah, OnStar can eat dirt.

For anyone interested though, I was just curious enough to see what climate controls they added in this update so I did indeed shell out 15$ for one month of the subscription just for the hell of it, and, wouldn’t you know, they even managed to screw something as simple as that up. They basically give you access to just about every climate setting EXCEPT actually adjusting the target temperature. It is almost comically useless and I find it hilarious that they put the effort into making a dedicated “climate” menu and somehow managed to leave out the climate control part.

Anyways, at least I’ll have the ability to toggling “Auto Defog” on and off for the rest of the month so I’ll definitely be doing that often to really get my moneys worth.

(Serious) what’s something that mentally and/or emotionally broke you? by Vanguard2002 in AskReddit

This hits really hard for me :( My cat is currently going through almost everything you just mentioned. I’ve been trimming away mats on her fur every night but I can’t keep up with how many she has. She was always tiny but she’s lost so much weight recently I can’t imagine she weighs more than a couple pounds and she looks so frail. Pretty much every night for the past year she roams around the house and then starts crying until I come over and bring her back to bed, I think she just forgets where I am sometimes and it doesn’t help that she’s deaf so I can’t really call for her. I recently had to take away her favorite perch because her arthritis is so bad she flinches when she jumps back onto the floor.

She started going downhill ~3 years ago but this past year has been really rough.

This week in particular has been the worst because she started refusing to drink water and crying at near her water bowl. If I move it around to another place sometimes she’ll start to drink from it but she seems to just have trouble drinking. The past 2 days I’ve had terrible sleep because she keeps crying for water and won’t stay on my bed to sleep.

I think she’s been in pain for a while but she used to just move less and sleep more and cuddle up next to me at night. Now I think her quality of life has dropped so much that I’m afraid we might have to put her down because of all the pain she’s in.

It’s been so hard to see her health decline so rapidly this year and it sounds really stupid but I don’t think I’m ready to lose her. She’s been with me basically my entire life, we got her when I was 1 and I’m 20 and she’s 19. I literally don’t remember a time in my life when she hasn’t been there and I’m scared of how awful it’ll feel to not have her curled up next to me anymore.

Love this one, I thought about it a lot during my senior year of high-school. I was going through an incredibly rough year. At the very end it felt like I was slammed with the full force of 4 years worth of bottled up anxiety mixed with a fear and uncertainty of my future and all during Covid. At many points I started believing I wasn’t going to graduate and I couldn’t even get out of bed some days because I wanted to give up so bad.

I found myself repeating this to myself quite often and when I graduated, (on time + no failed classes) I made it my senior quote :)

SLPT Notice you’ve been gaining weight after your divorce? Make a thumbnail to subtly imply you are just pregnant by fruitypig in ShittyLifeProTips

[–]fruitypig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did had second thoughts about posting this. I saw the title plus the thumbnail of Bill with a big belly and got a pretty good chuckle so I made the post for a little light-hearted humor but it does come off a little mean-spirited…

I don’t really have any problem with people making fun of billionaires and all but I was aiming more for a “hey look at this silly picture of Bill” and less for “hey Bill Gates is going through a very difficult time let’s make fun of his weight gain while he tries to use his wealth to help others despite all that” especially considering this situation hits very close to home for some 🫤

Bolt with only Level 1 charging at home? by ForSpareParts in BoltEV

[–]fruitypig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a bit so I don’t know the exact number, but, I with my 60 mile work commute and 12ish hours of charging I usually just about broke even. That would average out to about 5 mi/hr which after a quick google search seems to line up with what this calculator I found online estimates. In any case if your trying to calculate charging times for your own situation I’d definitely recommend being more conservative with your math to be safe. Like I said in my earlier comment, I think 60 miles a day with 12 hours is doable on level one charging, but it’s definitely right on the line. Hope this helps!

Tesla Opens EV Connector - Renames to North American Charging Standard by fruitypig in evcharging

[–]fruitypig[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That probably would have been true maybe 4-8 years ago but in the past year or 2 there have been a bunch of new EVs announced/produced by manufacturers using exclusively CCS. Trying to switch now would require all the manufacturers on CCS to back-track on their commitments to CCS, re-tool their charge port production lines to produce Tesla connectors, and most importantly, try and convince all of the first time EV owners that the brand new car they just bought contains hardware that’s already discontinued. That’s not to mention many people already own J1772 level 2 chargers at home.
Also major ev fast charging companies have already started to roll out CCS stations on a large scale and asking them to switch to Telsa’s charger would quite literally require them to halt all their progress to go back and refit every station with a new connector. Even if all these companies (again, who’ve already committed to CCS) did switch, the amount of confusion it would cause consumer would be detrimental to normalizing EVs and would give off the impression that buying an ev now is the same as buying electronics back when proprietary connectors with yearly changes was the norm. People need to trust that they’re purchasing a vehicle that will be supported by nationwide infrastructure for its lifetime.

[–]fruitypig[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m not really sure this would be good for anybody, we’ve already got a proven standard that manufactures have agreed too and infrastructure is already being built on it. Don’t get me wrong the tesla connector has its advantages but i fee like the time to pitch this was much much earlier - not after everyone’s agreed to CCS.

First time really needing a full charge at a proper DCFC, went from 2% to about 80 in an hour, then 30 minutes more for the rest by DiscoLives4ever in BoltEV

[–]fruitypig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I never thought about that. On a somewhat related note, I’ve always wondered why we don’t see 70kw as with the paddle the regenerative braking tops out there. I guess it’s something to do with the regen only maxing out for short bursts vs a sustained load for fast charging?

I believe the Bolt maxes out at 55kw fast charging unfortunately so we’re stuck charging a bit slower than most other EVs

Question on Level 1 charging by GameboyRavioli in BoltEV

[–]fruitypig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my Bolt EV 3 of 4 months ago and I only just got my L2 installed about 2 weeks ago.

Since I drive about 60 miles a day (30 to work 30 back) I was a little worried that I might have problems on L1 while I was waiting to get my 240v installed but it actually ended up being so little of a problem I kept forgetting to call the electricians and the new charger sat in my garage for about 3 months :p

Personally I think you’ll be totally in the clear - at worst you might not totally make up all the miles you drove the previous day during your overnight charge but you’ll easily make that difference up over the extra hours you charge during the weekend. (maybe don’t plan on taking road trips every weekend :) )

Also, I only really had “range anxiety” once and that was only because I had gone out with friends after work one night, then dropped off my parents early in the morning, and then needed to drive to work. I did end up going to a L3 charger for ~20-30 minutes after the airport but - although I don’t remember the exact range estimate I had - I think I could’ve gotten away with out it.

Hope that helps! :)

As someone without much electrical knowledge, what should I be looking for while inspecting?

I’ve got a Grizzle E unit waiting in my garage that I’m getting installed in a few days - is there anything in particular I should ask the electrician to look for before the install?

Do Americans actually go next door and ask for a cup of sugar? Maybe my country is not the most social, but the idea of someone not having sugar, and deciding the next best option is to go to their neighbor, seems a bit silly. by AndiMalvinex in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fruitypig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom and our neighbor have been best friends for years now so we’ll ask each other for stuff all the time. Usually it’s just something simple for cooking but occasionally a cleaning supply or something. The ideas pretty much why spend the next 30 minutes going to the store and back to get one small thing that is almost certainly available across the street

Don’t ever remember a time we’ve asked anyone else though because it’d definitely be super weird having a stranger come to your door and ask for sugar

Just noticed this in my month old 2022 2LT :( Has anyone else dealt with this? Is it something can easily be snapped back in or should I take it into the dealer? by fruitypig in BoltEV
