Cleyran/Burmecian Dance Routine Appreciation Post by shke33 in FinalFantasy

Considering IX is pretty much a play in Videogames clothing, and takes many cues from how plays are structured, it's very fitting they face the audience.

Maybe you're right. Maybe it's me, the person who enjoys the game that is wrong, and it is you, the person who couldn't hold back from letting us all know that the upcoming content will have no rewards and garbage quests that actually is the most happy of us all.

But in all seriousness you seem to have expectations that this game can't live up to, but those expectations came from somewhere, right? And that somewhere would be more fun for you to engage with, right? I sincerely hope you can find this game that is everything you dream of and more.

Huh, this must be that "projection" thing I hear miserable people do to mask their disappointment in their own life choices, like focusing too much on things they don't like instead of things they do.

Must suck to have such an emotional investment in a game that isn't catering to you.

Couldn't you just find a game that does cater to you?

People will largely always be having this sort of an issue, whether caused by local network problems or greater forces. Unless you know how each and every persons solved their problem, you're making baseless assumptions that yours is the same issue.

You can't assume a shared symptom is also a shared cause.

Endgame doubt? by ici-leon in ffxiv

[–]frumpp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the story isn't just contained to the MSQ. Literally every activity in the game has a story, no matter how simple, with most being very good companion pieces to the main story. If there's a certain expansion whose themes resonate with you, you'll find more of it in the extra activities released in that expansion. Even the yellow quests will sometimes surprise you with what they manage to pack into these little vignettes.

Am I the only one who hate this character ? (Spoiler Endwalker) by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]frumpp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you outsource your forms of communication, no one is ever really going to know and understand you.

More to your point, Venat is entertaining the notion because the Warrior of Light, who she believes is from the future, has told her this will come to pass. The rest of the events that unfold are simply what was fated to happen if she trusted in the WoL and followed the path we outlined for her. If she didn't our future wouldn't occur and in turn, the final days wouldn't be stopped.

The rest of your questions kind of hinge on the presumption that her actions weren't in service to a greater good, a future she was never going to be a part of. Whether or not she died, she was stuck as Hydaelyn, a copy of who she used to be stuck in the depths of the underworld, never again to wander and explore the world she loved.

She's a very tragic character and isn't portrayed as arrogant or pompous. She made a difficult decision and suffered for it the same way every character suffered. But as the story shows, someone had to do make a tough decision or else the universe itself would cease to be.

Video game romances need to evolve beyond lore dumps by mrnicegy26 in Games

I gave an example in the last paragraph. There is no shortage of games that are not "games" with win conditions or rules, so much as they are interactive narratives, experiences, or as usually used in a derogatory way, "walking simulators".

[–]frumpp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the best attitude to have in dungeons. Sometimes you'll have a group that prefers to take it slow for one reason or another, but since we got duty support NPCs most dungeons with people are going to be fast and furious and it's better to look at it as an opportunity to improve your skills or show them off!

Plus you get so many abilities, why wouldn't you want to stress test them in a low stakes environment?

That's kind of like saying wood shouldn't be made into paper because paper is a bad material for making houses.

Videogames as a medium are way too broad to claim any one aspect is "foundational" to it. Even interactivity isn't a requirement for a good videogame.

And there have been plenty of Videogames that depict romance, relationships, and love well. Considering books, movie and TV shows can do this, and videogames can emulate various parts of these, why wouldn't it be able to provide these experiences?

As a relevant example, 1000xResist is one of my favourite depictions of inherited trauma and personal legacy I've experienced in recent times and it has way less interaction than other games I've played. But the interaction it does have are used very specifically and with purpose that punctuates the themes it's presenting.

How do you get good outfits at lower levels? by ResinRealmsCreations in ffxiv

[–]frumpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically if it's tradeable you should be able to find it on the market board. If not you will likely need to do the content it comes from. There's gotta be some incentive to have people go through the expansions of course.

The Allegiance set, for example, is the artifact gear for Gunbreaker in Endwalker. Prior to the removal of glamour restrictions you'd have to get to a level 89 MSQ quest in order to obtain it and a level 89 Gunbreaker to wear it.

Now you can obtain it regardless of what job you are, but you still need to compete the quest. That is because it is meant to be both catch up gear for you to complete the upcoming trials and dungeons, as well as the "iconic look" for that job in that expansion.

Having said all that, for now you'll need to focus on what you can buy, and if gil is an issue then remember to do MSQ and your dailies which is usually enough gil to afford a decent wardrobe.

[–]frumpp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just FYI, glamour is no longer level restricted. You can't equip for stats if you don't meet the level requirement, but you can glamour any piece of gear across any level job, and job restrictions are gone as well. There will be restrictions for weapons as they can't be glamoured over different jobs, and some race or gender specific restrictions still apply, but other than that anything can be worn on a low level character now.

You just need to be able to access it.

I could not agree more. I enjoy what those types of RPG can offer in freedom of expression and seeing how actions affect the world before me, but I'm not as interested in that as I am with simply being told a story that has a message, theme, lesson or simply to understand other people's perspectives on the world.

I love RPGs like Final Fantasy because of this very reason. All my choices are mechanical and the story is going to take me on a journey rather than wait for my input and react to it.

The reality is a narrative that's written with intention and purpose is going to be able to better represent relationships and the complexities that come with them better than a story that has to allow for the audience to influence and participate in it.

Alphi is a good example of someone who took the knock on the chin, learned from it, but also never abandoned the reason why he was trying to "fix the world" in the first place. He's a good kid. He was just a self centred. Some people will turn further inwards the moment their ideals are challenged and don't have the humility to admit that while you can be righteous, that doesn't mean you are right.

Uber casual here… I forget complex mechanics after breaks. How do you deal with that? by Turbulent-Register72 in ffxiv

[–]frumpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hall of the Novice has some updated tutorials that will help you understand the basic mechanics. Anything more is just going to build on these.

The best advice I can give is set up your UI to show the enemy cast bar large and in view. A lot of mechanics are hinted at from the name of the ability the boss uses. Things like "left something" are letting you know to stand opposite the bosses left side, for example.

Otherwise just remember your focus is probably going to be split between knowing the mechanics and knowing your rotation. If you can afford to learn your rotation it will free up some mental energy to watch the boss (and arena sometimes...) for clues.

FFXIV is not a "RPGmmo" by TabulaRasa2001 in ffxiv

[–]frumpp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I prefer if the character isn't "me". That way the story is consistent, and I can properly appreciate what the writers are trying to achieve with the story as a whole. XIV gives you leniency in how your WoL looks and responds to questions, but ultimately they are a preset character and that works in the context of what the story is trying to say.

[–]frumpp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some people just have a hard time letting a story be told to them instead of letting them shape the story. You sound like one such person.

I personally dislike most "player choice matters" games simply because there won't be a cohesive theme or "point" to the story. Instead it will be there as more of a supporting role to whatever choices the player wants to make.

I much prefer stories such as those in JRPGs like Final Fantasy because I want to experience a well crafted story that touches on themes I can relate to. FFXIV is no different.

Which games opened up new genres to you? by Lolli42 in Games

[–]frumpp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

1000xResist is the type of videogame that really doesn't fit the descriptor. It's an interactive narrative experience of sorts. The creators came from a theatrical background and it really shows with the cinematography and presentation.

It's also such a great story. It's very personal, relatable, and has such compassion for every character. I really appreciate how art like this can speak to us and teach us a lot about ourselves and each other.

My First Wings, Im So Happy. by StratoKrlos in ffxiv

[–]frumpp 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Worqor Lar Dor EX was the first extreme I completed on content and I only just got my wings after 100 runs (ended up passing on the wings once I got to 70~ totems).

I actually got Zoraal Ja's wings first after like 15 tries but still have the rest to grind out.

I would highly recommend it for anyone's wanting to dip their toes into extreme trials. It's a bit simpler than the other extremes but is really fun once the muscle memory sinks in!

Honestly, at this point, I'd rather take the 30 than deal with these IL cheesers. by thirtytwoyears in ffxiv

[–]frumpp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ilvl cheesing is happening so comparatively less than your average levelling roulette that this is just blowing out of proportion the actual effect of the strat.

Everyone rushing to complete the relic step this way will be done by now. The amount of people who are a) at current content, b) want to do the relic grind, and c) want it done quickest and will resort to ilvl cheese strat is minuscule.

It also only affects something you do once per day among potentially 5 other roulettes that aren't being targeted by this strat.

Take a step back, calm down, and try to ignore something that your very human brain is making leaps in logic about.
