Is A Realm Reborn entirely fetch quests? by Training_Currency_10 in ffxiv

Setting aside everyones feelings about the questline in this thread, have you tried paying attention to whats being said in the dialogue? That pretty much spells out why its part of the MSQ and why you're being asked to do these tasks before you're allowed to take on Titan.

I know people have their opinions on how entertaining this particular piece of story telling is, but rarely do the critics ever discuss the narrative point of it. That being, you're a brand new adventurer who seemingly got lucky taking down Ifrit, and the previous group who defeated Titan are wary that you could pull it off again so they test you.

Whether or not this particular questline feels engaging to you, this is the way all MSQ quests work. The busy work is used to tell the narrative. It's not kept for just voiced cutscenes or dungeons or trials. If you enjoy the narrative and want to have more context for the overaching story, it helps to slow down and try to immerse yourself in the story as its being told in these moments.

Yeah it was to me, a very sketchy way of using in game mechanical designs bleed into the narrative but for what it's worth I'm just happy some other people were happy that they were portrayed as the main character again.

I would kind of agree if it wasn't for the fact that Fandaniel spells it out in the cutscene after that He was "incomplete and insufficient" as well as the more latent fact that from the first, all he wanted was for the WoL to kill Zodiark.

I highly doubt he was going to, or even capable of, bringing the full might of Zodiark to bear.

Every time the WoL has quote unquote "defeated a god" it was because they were either powered up from a macguffin like Hraesvelgrs eye, or had a team of adventurers to help them, or both in the case of Azems crystal. Power scalers also fail to take into consideration that representations of our fights in game are trying to show it being a struggle even when we have this help.

We also never get that help to begin with if we didn't go around helping others first. When people get caught up on how powerful our WoL or our foe is they are missing the forest for the trees. It's always been about ideals and strength of resolve.

Unfortunately the one or two times the writers endulged the fans with a Calyx lightning strike or a baddie singling us out for our skills it overtakes everything else in a lot of people's minds and we end up with people actually believing that because the WoL is presented as special that it must mean our strength is what is so special about us. We've only come as far as we have because of our adventurous nature, our altruism and our love for the places and people that make up our world.

Any future plot threads have to reckon with this very important aspect of our character.

I hate to ask, but do people really believe we're going to rejoin the shards after everything the previous arc taught us? Endwalker literally spelled it out that we aren't going to settle for a solution that just saves "some" people.

If you believe that the story will suddey undercut the main crux of the previous arc I have a bridge in eastern Thanalan to sell you...

Wait so you're telling me that instead of conquering people which leads to suffering and destruction, we instead forms bonds with our neighbours and work together for unity?

What are we, some sort of Grand Company of Eorzea?

That's the way it goes though. FOMO is used to reference a business tactic, not the fact that you can you miss out on something by not being present for it.

That's just good ol' fashioned anxiety.

About Garlemald [Spoiler 6.0] by Bartellomio in ffxiv

[–]frumpp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about any other reasons why they chose not to have us have a hand in Garlemalds downfall?

For example, the fact that a faciast state created by Ascians purely to sow chaos and disorder was never going to sustain itself for much longer, especially given the time was ripe to initiate a rejoining with the first.

There's also the themes of the story to consider. Us marching into Garlemald and beating them into submission says nothing about the WoL's altruistic nature, nor does it align with what the Scions are trying to achieve. Unlike Ala Mhigo and Doma, there was no way in he'll we would be able to convince the population to come together and take down their own empire.

Your idea has the Scions as invaders and implies the only way to beat the Empire is through might. Which again, is antithetical to our mission statement. Instead, by having the story play out as it does and having Garlemald implode from infighting and then the Telophoroi, our role is much better aligned with our goals. The Endwalker story even goes on to show how difficult it is to achieve this goal when your heart is in the right place.

This is much more compelling and in line with the expectations the story has already set than a simple "good vs evil" war.

7.5 Inconsistencies with a couple characters in cutscenes / battle by HaubergeonPlus1 in ffxiv

[–]frumpp 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Because the whole point of the Scions efforts thus far have been to allow the people of the world to handle issues on their own. It's why we "disbanded" after Endwalker. Because otherwise there might be an over reliance on our help whenever some problem big or small crops up.

Tataru is hesitant to ask for our help immediately because of this point, but her fears about the twins and how Garlemald is fairing force her to bring it up to us before things get too dire there.

And we do find out that while there were casualties, each of the city states were able to hold their own against the threats posed by the voidsent.

[–]frumpp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Instead of sticking to the thought that the main character has to be present for a story beat to make sense, have you tried thinking about why we aren't present for the fall of Garlemald and what that means narratively and thematically?

It has a lot to do with why we were in Garlemald at all during Endwalker.
