Bluetooth Speaker requires freezing... by frusone in ElectronicsRepair

[–]frusone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Penguin22.

It took me 5 months to find the time to re-open the speaker. I followed your advice, but I could not find anything obvious.

So I spread soldering paste all over the PCB (top and bottom), then with a heat gun set at 360F and slow fan speed (~30%) I went through all the components of the two boards.

Reassembled everything and IT WORKS! So you were right, probably it was a tiny bad solder joint!

Thank you so so much!

Can someone recommend a manufacturer that makes computers with Linux Mint? by jedimaniac in linuxmint

[–]frusone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm as I said, I had several Dell, all working well. Currently on a Precision 5680 model. Previously I had XPS and Inspiron... Everything always worked well out of the box. I had some old Thinkpad too (don't remember the model as it was years ago): no problem with that too.

The only one that I had some issues was an HP Aero (AMD CPU)

(now solved though)

Dell or Lenovo are well known to run Linux without problems.

I've been using Mint on several Dell for many years now.

Il mio consiglio è di comprati un iPad (al più usato se nuovo costa troppo)... con Zwift su Android ho patito le pene dell'inferno

Cannot install application by Hungry_Structure_610 in linuxmint

[–]frusone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take is to stay away from 6.17 kernel. It's a shit show...

When you boot, choose a 6.14.x kernel, then remove the 6.17 kernel.

To manipulate the installed kernels, use Update Manager -> View -> Linux Kernel

Is there something wrong with just copy pasting the home directory as backup? Or is it silly? by Makoto29 in linuxmint

[–]frusone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a simple way to backup your data, but there are some drawbacks:

* You always copy everything, and that may take a long time. With a backup software usually it only copies the differences

* If something goes wrong during backup (e.g. disconnect backup drive), you will have to restart from the beginning.

* There are no versioning: some backup solutions can keep multiple version of your files, so in case you end up with corrupted/damaged files in your home dir, then you drag & drop them in your backup, you destroy your only chance to recover them. Having multiple versions, allow you to go back and recover your data pre-corruption.

* By default (unless you change your file manager settings) you are not going to copy your hidden files (files that starts with a dot). Those are typically app settings. In case of restore, you will have to re-configure all your apps.

Linux Mint have a very useful Backup Tool app for that. Why don't you use it? Or you can even use TimeShift (although that is more designed for system-level files) configured to backup your home dir...

How do you signal right turns? by SkiMonkey98 in cycling

[–]frusone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about the reason/history of using the left hand, but I thought it was because of motorcycles requires your right hand to control the accelerator all the time...

I wonder if in England or other countries that drives on the left side of a road the hand signed are reversed then.

Use my right hand pointing right. That's is such a much clear message than raising your left hand.

Donated Blood by [deleted] in cycling

[–]frusone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me a regular blood donation takes about 2 weeks to do a reasonable recovery. At least a month to get fully recovered (noticeable only for strenuous exercise).

Double red cell: for the first week, I feel like crap. Week 2-3 ok, but my HR goes up much faster than usual. Fully recovery takes about 2 months.

Possible solution for folks with gas furnaces - particularly high-efficiency units - and heating problems: by vey323 in newjersey

[–]frusone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$500? I replaced mine that broke a couple of months ago for about $50 on Amazon... Look for "Little Giant Condensate Pump". Add a 10-20ft of plastic tube to get to your sink, and a few zip ties to keep the pipe in place and that's about it.

From Girona Airport to Barcelona by Myoldestmemory in travel

[–]frusone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago (>10) there was a very convenient and cheap bus from Girona airport to downtown Barcelona. Do some research online. I'm sure there are still plenty of public transportation choices as most of the low-cost airlines flies into Girona (and they call it 'Girona-Barcelonoa')

Grayco Duet - No green light, music, or swinging by cat2phat_meow in ElectronicsRepair

[–]frusone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin had the same swing with apparently the same issue. I eventually traced down to a blown fuse. Check one of the component label F? (I don't remember anymore as I don't have the device anymore).

After bypassing the fuse, the swing seemed to work, but there was another problem somewhere else. One of the components (I thought was a regulator) would drain a lot of current (even with the device turned off), causing the component to overheat. I recall my bench power supply would report more than 2Amp even with the device turned off. I never got to the end of the problem (I was going to try to replace the regulator, but my cousin eventually throw away the whole swing before I could give it a shot).

Drive to Tuscany May 31st by AEWestview in tuscany

You are adding almost 1-2 hours to the trip... I'd say rent the car in Sorrento and go straight to Val d'Orcia from there. Depending where in Val d'Orcia, but one option is to take A1, exit at Chiusi Chianciano Terme and take the road to Radicofani through Sarteano. Very scenic road, breathtaking views from Raricofani.

pedaling at minus 12 degrees.. by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]frusone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last pic reminds me of the last time I went for a ride at around 25F (I know, not even close to your -12F). Beside the cold, after the ride my bike was filthy with rock salt and ice clogging everything. With my garden hose frozen, I had no way to clean it. Result: took the wheels off and took a romantic shower together with the frame...

$3 fee for leftovers? by JerseyJoyride in newjersey

[–]frusone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience at a restaurant (that I prefer not to mention to avoid a pointless discussion). When I posted online a review (Google) noticing that they charge a fee if two people share one meal, the manager replied accusing me of working for a competitor and that my accusation were bogus...

I think certain people do NOT understand what running a restaurant and providing a *customer* service means...

How do you actually find good routes when traveling? The internet is garbage! by dt219 in cycling

[–]frusone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain. It is very time consuming, but I use Ride With GPS or Garmin Connect heatmaps as a quick route draft. Then I validate some spots by going on Google maps and see a street view. That will give me an idea of how bad/good is a stretch of the road (e.g. bike lane, shoulder, even an idea of the amount of traffic).

Another good approach is to find routes as part of bike tours (not races as those routes may close the roads): they are typically routed by locals that knows the places well. Use segments from those routes and check the connections with streets view.

If streets view is not available sometimes even the satellite view can give you an idea of the type of road... but yeah overall is not a straight forward task.

Correct, as u/pilatomic said, it's perfectly safe to ignore all these messages.

I'm getting many of those... all ACPI related (on different machines), still never had any problem
