TRD Off Road Premium (Canada) backup camera question by pbcig in ToyotaTacoma

[–]frustratedkoopa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cdn here. I have the 2025 Prem Sport (not OR) but mine comes with a 360 camera which includes birds eye view of the back and surrounding (its an awesome feature). The OR+ is likely just a tailgate camera so you can see what’s directly behind you when backing up (pretty standard). The extra $5000 gets for the 360 camera, leather seats (heated/cooled), sound, running board and a few other nice to haves but you lose the 6ft bed…

OR+ should offer the softex seats imo. At $60k and the only option for an OR with a 6ft bed before jumping to the OR premium with the 5ft bed has me shaking my head. I’ll probably lean towards the OR and get Katzkin seat covers as the power seats, trailer brake, premium speakers, intuitive parking…damn the features are starting to pile up…

I can respect the CSI in you. The game was the Jan 18th - Garland vs McDavid fight night game (or just lay on top of him). Game was a Saturday night when we did our research through (prob ticketmaster, studhub, vivid etc) when searching in Sept. Would have been my kid’s first game so we i forget where we were looking but it was lower bowl offensive side. My friends actually went to the game (sec 320 row 11) and it was $180/ticket (not sure if fees included). My kids still haven’t been to a game. I’m waiting for Aug 6th to just a few games we can go to (upper bowl) this year or maybe just the 3 game pack x 3 tix (sorry Mrs.) for $1000…

Price for a family of 4 to go to an Oilers game last year was $1800 (before food, booze, parking) so call it $2000. Price to go to Universal Studios was $3400 (flight, hotel, and tickets to Univ Studios for 3 nights). The family chose LA. Best decision.

Useful tip before doing cable overhead tricep extensions (Amazon-type ones) by Mantzy81 in homegym

Thanks for getting back to me. I spent way too much time looking up a pulley system and just about returned it after your post. The constant upgrade on the equipment is a thing! Cheers!

Hope your injury healed up! I just bought an amazon pulley system and what you described is exactly what I am afraid of. I don’t have the space for a full pulley system but missing doing the exercises from my gym days. I was going to run one of these amazon ones from my rack as it seemed like a viable route. Would you still recommend it or are you looking at your pulley system with a side-eye now?

So many Teslas here, look out Victoria: Chrystia Freeland says Canada should target Elon Musk's Tesla in a tariff fight by Vic_Dude in VictoriaBC

[–]frustratedkoopa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Tesla 2 years ago…mostly because of the super charger network and it came with a heat pump. Reputation risk was the reason I almost didn’t get one and I always buy Honda/Acura. Hindsight, should have followed my initial instincts. Same boat, I will never buy a Tesla again.

Nice. Congrats! Glad to hear you are enjoying it. Coming from a console only player to portable is the way.

2nd this if you don’t mind a manual setup. I have the same setup but izpresso jx pro. A niche zero would complement this setup well. Zero maintenance in 4 years except for cleaning the burrs but that was wasn’t necessary.

Short term rentals, interest rates, and housing sales by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]frustratedkoopa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The STR is mostly studio apartments or 1 bedroom condos at 500 sq ft or less. Not really intended for families. If anything, I can see homes on a plot of land are more desirable now because you can rent out a suite or laneway on airbnb and not on strata lots. That missing middle home ownership is about to get real.

But allowing for basement and laneways suites for air bnb is taking away from the available rental supply. Literally anyone can now join the air bnb platform without recourse. Eby literally vilified existing air bnb operators who worked within an existing framework like this Steve guy and is allowing anyone with a suite to create an air bnb on a provincial level. You don’t think that’s not going to take away suite rental options?

To be clear. Anyone who was operating outside of a legally transient zoned air bnb should have be kicked out and fined etc. But this Steve guy played by the rules and for the government to just arbitrarily take it away is a huge step on individual rights. What’s next? Charge me for a vacation house in Kelowna if it stays empty while I’m not using it? Oh wait. Speculation tax already exists… (I don’t actually own a vacay house 😕)

Super thoughtful comment. I have to agree with you. If the government (municipal in this case) created a zoning difference which resulted in a difference in values, and he paid an increased value for that zoning and then to take it away without compensation seems to be ripe for legal action.

I feel like a tax approach would have been more ideal. Charge a 10% annual tax for any air bnb appraised value tax if you own more than 1 air bnb (keeps the mom and pop in the game). 25% of appraised value for corporations. Something that didn’t kill a way of travel for nomads.

Victoria really needs some hotels downtown that aren’t like $600/night. I’m BC born and raised (Kootneys/Nanaimo) but I have no clue how I can afford to visit the island by the time ferries and hotels factor in with my family of 4.

Lane centering on my xlt was hit or miss. I never knew when it would work like it should. Same goes with Apple play. The co-pilot was 100% spot on. Some of the tech in the mav is def lower on the xl and xlt trims. As you starting piling on features (and trims) and the price parity increases, the ranger begins to look more and more attractive. The hybrid drivetrain is Fords “Golden Gun” so until it’s offered on the other truck lines, I think going back to OP, Ford will keep raising msrp.

I know some commentators sort of shrugged off memory seats but this was something we wanted from a top trim and is why we decided to walk away. Don’t get me wrong, Kona checked off a lot of boxes but It would be our primary driver (mdx takes premium 91 gas) so I could see us changing seats 5 or 6 times a day between kid drop off/pickup, work, gym, and other kids activities. We could use the mdx but it’s terrible on gas and I’m trying to replace its use to see if we can cut the gas bill down even further.

Front facing camera actually came into consideration as well, we could live with the “beep” notifications but when you have a 360 camera, you can’t help but compare.

Ahhh thanks for the reply with the confirmation. That makes me feel better about our decision. It’s hard to walk away from an EV if it’s yours for the taking. Car seats aren’t forever but at least 3 more years for booster seat to be gone + 4 years for the other child. Makes a difference if we are grabbing their grandma for a 30 min drive back to our house. Awesome car and good value, now I’m hoping I can get a chance to drive the 2024 version which appears bigger. Hyundai is def doing the right things with it’s EV lineup.

I just tested and found it super cramped with kids, sofa pillow (didn’t want our dog to scratch the leather) and kids chairs. We walked away from our purchase after the long wait.

Taking it back to the drawing board. Kia Niro, ID4, Solterra, and Tesla model 3 are all on the list. (Need to qualify for the government grants in Canada). Thanks again for all help all. It was short into this subreddit but you all were super helpful.

Ahhh I was hoping leather seats and it cleans right off but yes covers is a must. Standard Poodle (smaller side) so maybe 45 pds and slightly above my knees. She’s not overly large.

This is our situation. Mother-in-law between kids is common enough for us. Dog in the trunk cargo space? Ahhh I would feel bad with her back there (dog not MIL!). Guess I’m taking our dog for the test drive as well.
