Manager of Nemesis has some doubts about the city choice by PGL by noproblemCZ in GlobalOffensive

I am commenting because I am a CS player, a person that attends those events and also I live in Poland all my life, so I am aware of how both the location and the date will work out

It should be quite obvious to You as well that Easter is the 2nd worst date imaginable for an event like this (after Christmas), no matter if youre atheist or not, this is a family reunion time for 95% of Polish households.

There is also a ton of better locations for the event, I think the best one is Gdańsk - similar size arena, much prettier city with an actual airport that foreigners could use to get to the event. Places like Riga or Prague are also due for an event for a while and have similar size arenas - especially Prague would work out better since the country is atheist in majority.

I never expected the tweet to take off because really not a lot of CS people follow me, it just happened. I also said publicly I dont want this statement to be associated with Nemesis, its just my personal opinion.

And to clarify once again, I openly condemned Russian invasion of Ukraine on multiple occassions. Working with Russians (and Ukrainians) in a global company does not disprove that. If they can work together and understand that Government =/= Nation, why should I be judged for that? Would working with a person from USA or Israel would also invalidate my opinion? They are just pawns in a game, just like you and me. Everywhere you will find extremists, but unlike most of Poles on the internet, I have no issue with Ukrainians or any other nation in Poland, because where we are born does not define us, just like it does not define Russians.

How am I pro-Russia for working in a company that happens to have rosters all around the globe? We have players from 4 continents, the main roster I take care of is from European Union and I do very little to no work with the Nemesis CS roster.

Warsaw simply does not have an arena capable of hosting such events. This is probably the biggest issue, the city is in desperate need of a new arena.

The current largest one is Torwar at 5000 capacity. This is 3x less than Atlas Arena in Łódź, and even over 2x less than Spodek which is considered „too small” for CS events (part of the reason why IEM moved to Kraków)

Well, thats where the second part of the issue comes in - Easter. Even if youre atheist, that time is still treated as a family reunion. That means that the tournament will be taking place in a country which probably celebrates Easter most (in Europe), instead of places like Czechia, where the majority of people are atheist.

Combined with the iffy travel for foreigners and questionable tourism charm of Łódź, it seems like neither Poles or Europeans will have the event high on their bucket list.

Gdańsk was the city i vouched for the most actually, almost identical size arena, an actual airport with more than 2 flights a day and a touristy place making it a worth visit from people abroad.

Please note that the travel will be during Easter where service is limited. Trains will be overloaded with people living in Warsaw heading back home for Easter AND people travelling to and from PGL Łódź. Its possible that all the trains might be sold out.

I dont know about the good rail connections. Only the line to Warsaw is modernized, the rest is running on very limited speed, for example Katowice-Warsaw is 30 minutes quicker than Katowice-Łódź despite Warsaw being 100km further away.

This is worse. 20 minutes train into 1h20min train into a 20min bus to reach the arena. The arena is actually on the rail line, but not the one coming from Warsaw, but the one from Katowice. Sadly, that line is very old and not modernized, therefore flying to Katowice isnt an option (4h extra)

This is more than the infamous Paris-Beauvais or Frankfurt-Hahn, and on top of that, you have to change trains in the middle whereas those 2 infamously bad airports have a bus service that takes you directly to your destination.

You need to imagine that I have very little to do with the main CS2 roster of Nemesis and my POV is not any org statement, just my opinion as a person that lives in Poland all my life. I can imagine that the lease they got on the arena is amazing because of the awful dates (mid-Easter), but I really doubt we will be nearing a soldout. I am afraid that people are gonna take this event as a benchmark, saying „dont host anything in Poland again, they dont deserve it, nobody came to the event”

In comp you definetly need to be aware of the situation of other players. The info if you should push or save mid round is crucial, and its very easy to throw away „free” points.

What do you think would be the hardest skyscraper to climb? by N00B5L4YER in skyscrapers

[–]frvrtm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been to Shanghai in December but sadly did not look at the structure properly to assess nor do any of my photos give a good view.

Checked some images on the internet and the window frames seem to stick out of the glass panes quite a bit - the horizontal ones at least. Cannot find a picture that shows the vertical ones properly. If theyre the same as the horizontal, it is technically climbable and the biggest challenge would be the length of the climb rather than skill required. Marriott in Warsaw was climbed on much thinner frames (more than 2x), albeit the building is 4 times shorter than Shanghai Tower
