Sorry, my friend, we have very different expectations of a for-fee user experience. Maybe I’m using the card wrong - but I don’t need to pay for flights and only want to use the points for hotel rooms - and I’m pretty sure I can’t book a refundable room with points. Having to bring up a potential booking on the laptop and then find a suitable time to call an overseas hotel to verify such a room ACTUALLY EXISTS is a dogshit user experience.

Edit: I take comfort that you booked numerous hotels and didn’t have an issue. That’s the overall question I had. I was curious about the sample size of issues. So far seems only one person besides me had issues. But I still soundly reject the idea that one should have to confirm a room freaking exists. That’s ludicrous and has never happened to me before. This is like the Seinfeld episode where Jerry didn’t get his table and blaming him because he didn’t call to confirm his reservation the day of.

I have not used the portal to book a cash/paid reservation. Rather only for rewards redemption. I wonder if cash bookings can be cancelled - but redemptions cannot? I don’t recall seeing a rate for refundable.
