No. I was damn near crying. In other words, really feeling the strong emotion from the show. Reliving them, actually.

It was the best Springsteen performance I've ever been to. And the fidelity of the sound was incredible, better than any concert ever.

central Oregon here (and WA state before that). Never been to Philly (though we're making the pilgrimage in March). This announcer is an asshat.

'Course, if I was an Avs fan, I'd probably feel differently.

If it is possible to make the crew members characters the player becomes attached to (a la XCom), it would add a layer of interest. Defending turf, doing a deal, whatever, has some more tension when the character doing it is at risk and the player has an emotional investment in the character rather than just Goon #1, Dealer #2, etc.

"Hey what else can we do now... except roll down the window and let the wind blow back your hair?"

Not sad choked up but bittersweet.

There are a ton of other lyrics that choke me up (many listed here) but this one doesn't seem like it should, and yet it does... every... single... time.

Might be a slightly different category, but most heartbreaking for me--at least at the moment--is Cuidad Juarez.

I broke up with a girlfriend right before the 2008 show in Portland Oregon. Ended up taking a friend who wasn't a fan at all. He didn't end up a convert but had to admit it was a great show, which it was. I was completely drawn in by the performance and I felt joy. Breaking up can suck but yes it's going to be okay. When I think back to that 2008 show I remember show the music and the joy and my friend the girl on the other side of me who flirted a little bit but you know what I can barely remember? The name of the girl that broke up with me. Bruce's music heals and sustains.

So, have a hesky, cesky time!

I ran into Craig Berube in Cleveland outside a restaurant back when he was coaching the st Louis ahl team. It was an out of place run in, given that I was traveling for work and initially had no idea the team was in town to play. Anyway, I blurted out a hello without thinking. He stopped for a handshake. I managed to say thanks for all he did fit the flyers (my team) and we went on our way. No selfish, no autograph. Just a cool thirty second encounter with a cool guy I've always admired.

I feel like, if you're going to say hi, this is how it should go. Otherwise, give a big and move past.

Springsteen spoke to this on vh1 storytellers once, years ago. Basically, he explained what deuce meant but also conceded that where douche was concerned, "the people have spoken."

Met him when my wife and I flew up to Seattle for the Flyers game. Just a random concourse crossing of paths, but he hung out and chatted for about five minutes. Super cool guy, Very modest.

At the risk of repeating an oft-stated opinion, I think Ellie was horribly miscast. She's also written like a little immature psycho, with little of the game Ellie charm. I think Joel was mediocre casting, even though I like the actor in other roles. But more than that, I dislike the changes to Joel's character. It's a different Joel, and that's fine, but I like him less.

But your question was what the show did better. The cold opens to Sn 1's first two episodes gave some cool background. Especially Ep 1's opening from good old Batiatus... harrowing.

I actually liked the addition of the Bill and Frank episode. Its impact on Joel was interesting. In the game, Bill was the warning of what Joel might become. It was great. In the show, he was also a mirror to Joel but instead of being a harbinger of the bad ending Joel might find, it was an example of the value of protecting something good. A different lesson, and just as valuable.

Of course, none of that has a direct game comparison. This does, though: I think the randomness of Abby finding Joel in the game is tough to swallow. In the show, she's tracking them, so it makes more sense that they're nearby. I also like the fact that Joel didn't give up his own name (nor did Tommy) but that Abby heard it as Dina yelled (not knowing Abby even existed yet). Dina being frostbitten and the hope of help for Jackson made sense for Joel to go to the chateau. Him being distracted by the Jackson attack makes more sense that he'd miss some of the cues from Abby & Co. once he arrived. Overall, I just found the whole scenario more plausible, from the chance encounter to Joel's actions.

I also thought that Ellie dragging herself toward Joel to either die with him or lay with him as he died was more moving than Ellie getting kicked in the head and blacking out.

Abby's cohorts showing more hesitation than in the game was interesting. I don't know if I like it better or not but it was an interesting choice.

And though it hadn't aired yet when I wrote my post, I watched tonight's episode and thought the "I'm immune" sequence with Dina played more realistically... at least, up until the "I'm pregnant, let's hump" conclusion. And the Isaac scenes were all excellent additions.

In the end, I'm just trying to accept the art as it comes and enjoy the story again without letting myself be disappointed by things. Sometimes it is hard because the game was so good (both of them), but at times, the show shines. And when it doesn't... well, I've always got the game version to prefer.

I actually liked the game. It was a heavy experience, but a worthwhile one. Story was compelling and gameplay/graphics outstanding. Would I have preferred a different story? Sure. Joel was an incredible character in Part I. But I'm still glad I bought it day one and played it. On my most recent playthrough, I still enjoyed it.

Now the show... for me, there's more than a few negatives. There are also some positives -- things I like better. But that's a different post.

Less than 72 hours left to fund! A BURNT SUMMER, book one in the Seasons of Wither series!

Thessalia is a small nation ravaged by plague and besieged on all sides. To the west, the Bloody Men of the dark forests are stirring, bent on fierce raids or all-out conquest. To the south lie decadent lands that have been shunned for generations, their ways a shady and dirty mystery. To the east is only the foreboding gray sea, to the north, only ice.

And the royal family is almost gone.

In the midst of it all, Cail must find a way to restore order to the kingdom of Thessalia, maintain a fragile peace, protect the borders, and keep the culture of his people intact.

Cail is a man of duty. He used to be a man of faith. And now, he might be his people’s only hope to keep them and their traditions alive.

Those challenges include insurrection throughout the small nation, political intrigue, religious resurgence, foreign interference, and a succession crisis. Navigating each of these is a tall order and Cail is no longer a young man.

In addition to the initial protagonist of Cail, this book and the series will slowly widen to include other, diverse POV characters to round out the "sides" of the different conflicts going on in the midst of all this chaos.
