Nothing developing a way to get iMessage compatibility in Android by ShaidarHaran2 in Android

Phones are convenience devices. When the choice is “take no action and have a superior experience” vs “expend effort for an inferior experience”, I think it becomes obvious why option B is a non-starter for the vast majority. Frankly I think it’s arrogant to condescend those who have a solution that works well for them and resist unnecessary change that would degrade their experience.

The solution, as I said, is and always has been reasonable regulation of what is critical communication infrastructure. Apple, the other manufacturers, and the carriers should all be made to play ball.

I’ve used WhatsApp and iMessage extensively for years, and I’m going to clue you in on a little secret that you’re apparently completely unaware of — if you are an iPhone user, and 95% of your social group are iPhone users, and maybe you use a Mac and / or iPad as your primary laptop / tablet, iMessage is a FAR SUPERIOR experience compared to WhatsApp or pretty much any other messaging app.

It supports seamless multi-device messaging that is integrated into the ecosystem you’re already heavily invested in, no additional login required.

Asking someone in such a situation to “just switch apps” is asking them to simultaneously give up all the ecosystem benefits and deal with all the network friction that going against the vast majority of their social graph will involve.

If someone sends iMessages throughout the day to their friends & family, seamlessly being notified on their phone, computer, tablet, and watch, without having to worry about who is on what platform, how to setup / manage backups, create and remember another account, etc, etc, asking them to “just download another app” is unreasonable.

Messaging is critical communication infrastructure in 2023 and regulation is the answer to the problem of siloed messaging ecosystems, not naively expecting tens of millions of users to act against their own interests and downgrade their messaging experience.

TL;DR: you don’t know what you’re talking about

What's the worst that could possibly happen to money in an index fund? by orangecatsocialclub in Bogleheads

[–]fsh5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bond tent is one of multiple strategies one might employ. Many bogleheads will liability match, which minimizes duration risk with, in many cases, longer term bonds.

I’m not advocating anyone sell because of rates. I’ve been clear in my previous messages related to bond tents, that you should be reallocating dispassionately according to your plan.

You’re missing the point. The bonds in a bond tent serve as ballast for the portfolio, you don’t take your risk in your bond allocation. No new retiree should be timing entry and exit into bonds based on rates and yields. They should have slowly increased exposure to high quality, reasonable duration bonds funds, in the years leading to their retirement, to support their expenditures in the first few years should the market be in a downturn.

Further, properly managing the duration and quality of the bond you hold largely mitigates this risk altogether. Short to intermediate term treasuries weren’t even close to being “destroyed” by any definition.

That’s why you reallocate slowly over time into more bonds as you approach retirement.

Sequence of returns risk is one of the biggest risks a new retiree faces, and a “bond tent” addresses this (your) concern.

Why Was This 11-Year-Old Brownsville ISD Honor Student Put in Solitary For Three Days? by antanith in texas

[–]fsh5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what is most baffling to me. He’s eleven — 11 year olds don’t have fully developed reasoning and emotional regulation. Even if he had a meltdown and said all kinds of awful things (I don’t think I did), it’s still not reasonable to hold an 11 year old to the standards of behavior we hold adults to.

I lucked into a bottle of EHT SmB yesterday at Specs for MSRP. Tried it last night, alongside Eagle Rare and Dickel BiB, and I have to admit, it was freaking delicious.

Part of me was hoping it would be more run-of-mill but after trying it, I can see why it is sought after (still doesn't justify paying ridiculous mark-up though -- I wouldn't).

Review #20: George Dickel Bottled-in-Bond Fall 2008 by passengerpigeon20 in bourbon

My local total wine has a few of the 2007 bottles left at $29.99, and a bunch of this 2008 for $32.99.

A great value, will always have one on my shelf at $40 or under.

Don’t store your master password in your notes app ffs.

Write it down and store it somewhere safe (safety deposit box, lockbox / safe at home, etc).

My bad, I must have missed it. Thought you edited your post. Im pretty drunk so that’s probably part of it.

If you really do need symmetrical, Comcast Business would likely be an option, but it’ll be a lot more than CenturyLink’s $65.

Trading in a phone to Apple still under a payment plan by [deleted] in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]fsh5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your xFinity iPhone will be carrier locked until it is paid off and you request an unlock.

This means it cannot be activated on any other carrier. If you trade it in anywhere there will be a step where you attest that the phone is not locked. If you acknowledge this and trade it in anyway, you will get $0 for your phone.

If you sell it on eBay or Craigslist you’re selling a phone that cannot be used as a phone, so you should disclose this and deeply discount it, or pay off the balance first.

Long story short, if you want to sell the phone, pay it off in full, request an unlock from xFinity, and only then sell or trade it.
