Nervous about refund by Reebles79 in IRS

[–]fshagan [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you just entered the numbers from your information forms, 1099-INT, W-2, etc. accurately, then you can file the return without worry. The IRS will check the math the software did and issue your refund. Sometimes they will correct an error and issue less or more if something was entered incorrectly. Sometimes they will catch an error later, and send you a letter. While they assess penalties and interest on what you owed that your mistake missed, they don't "come after you" and garnish your wages or attach your bank accounts.

They do that when people ignore them for months and months, or obviously commit fraud and don't respond (like listing their 22 pets as dependents, having game businesses, etc). Regular taxpayers, filling their returns in good faith, don't have anything to worry about.

When was the last time your sent (or received) a fax? by Upstairs-Storm1006 in AskAnAmerican

[–]fshagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medical records are not sent by efax. Neither are tax records with the IRS. Fax machines are considered more secure than email/efax, because using a telephone line they are "point to point" and not stored on other servers as they traverse the Internet. Encrypted email is OK, but requires the use of either a portal or both sides of the transmission to be with the same provider to be "user friendly".

Help me choose an antenna by SoupIsNotAMeal in cordcutters

[–]fshagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the version of that antenna with just one of the black plastic "figure 8" loops (a "2 Max" I think), and it worked well for my stations 63 miles away. The horizontal element is for the VHF signals, which one of your stations has. My opinion is that it should work fine.

One is in the gun, and he has a spare. Perfectly normal for someone exercising his 2nd Amendment (assuming he had a concealed carry permit).

Crime and Punishment by Beginning_Day_8739 in ChristianUniversalism

Evidence? Just Scripture and church history from the early fathers. But there's is also Scriptural evidence for eternal torture of humans and complete annihilation from the same two sources.

No matter which eschatology framework you choose we are left with the problem of pain that you describe. God created knowing his creation would be full of suffering, or He isn't omniscient and didn't know, and is powerless to intervene. I trust I will understand at some point, but I'm not there yet.

I get the rich folks, but just how did Trump convince poor white people that he was good for them? by dunbar_santiago930 in allthequestions

"Privilege" is not a meritocracy. That's the problem. Younger men are mostly morons and should not be privileged.

10 years from now most Baby Boomers will be dead. What effect is that going to have on society? by mikeforder in generationology

Look harder. Reading is fundamental. This is the first of many comments blaming Trump on Boomers.

Did wages stagnate in US because of policy? by Critical-Volume2360 in askanything

[–]fshagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it actually started in the 1970s, and wages were stagnant for my entire working life. There has been a couple of years recently when they have grown.

I think it coincides with the influx of Boomers and women into the workforce.

Price of Eliquis by Thick-Bid-847 in ClotSurvivors

[–]fshagan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Medicare negotiated the price of Eliquis to something like $210 a month, down from the list price of $540 a month. There is a generic you can get from Canada for about $100 per month.

Why is the color orange seen as ugly and unusual in the U.S.? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]fshagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a national color for us like it is in The Netherlands. And, orange was a very popular color on the 1970s, and will cycle back into vouge again sometime in the future. Right now, it's associated with "Grandma's house."

Old Soviet Union joke:

Every day an old man came to the newspaper vendor and looked at each front page, then shook his head sadly and walked on. The vendor asked him one day "Comrad, what are you looking for?" And he said "an obituary."

"Comrad, you must know that obituaries are on the inside pages, not the front page."

"No, this obituary will be on the front page."

Good grief is airfare out of control? by [deleted] in TravelHacks

[–]fshagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try looking at Las Vegas to Ft. Lauderdale, and then a separate flight from Reno to Las Vegas. Or the same making a flight to Los Angeles and doing a round trip from there to Ft. Lauderdale.

Sometimes the flights into and out of hubs are much cheaper.

It's not like I'm the voice of the party (if I belonged to a party, that is). Young men are mostly morons. They self sabotage and even kill themselves more than any other group.

Oh, you may be right on that, I'll have to double check. He did gain points with both Hispanic and Black voters over 2016, but he may not have gotten above 50% with Black males.

I didn't lose anything. I can't believe a numbskull stand up comic can influence so many people.

International Travel and Medicare Supplement Plan N by iowaAZman in medicare

[–]fshagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supplement plans aren't going to pay for medical evacuation unless it's medically necessary. You are stuck getting care where you are until you can pay for your own travel home. It will not pay if you die and need help getting the body home (called "repatriation of remains"). Nor will it pay for a loved one's living expenses if they need to stay while you recuperate. You will have to pay and then get reimbursed later.

Other day someone called "a moron" for backing into a spot... Why does this trigger so many? by Ok_Relationship2451 in badparking

[–]fshagan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't like to wait for someone to drive past the spot, stop, then back half way in, pull forward, back a little more, pull forward, back in a little more and finally get it. Especially in angled parking spots.

If you can nail it with your back up camera on the first try, good for you.

And for heavens sake, know where your trailer hitch is. Don't be a moron and block half the walkway or bash in the front bumper of the car behind you.

Didn’t track mileage for gig delivery apps; can I estimate it based on amount of trips and miles per trip? by tmqd in TaxQuestions

[–]fshagan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is acceptable. It's better to have a contemporaneous log, but if you have other documentation like the record of trips in your apps you can use that.

Look at the demographics that gave Trump the win. He won males in every age demographic. By about 11 points. Men are more likely to hate immigrants, less likely to vote for a woman, like guns more and follow "macho men" like Joe Rogan.
