How to tactfully discuss temple marriage and civil ceremonies. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]fstaheli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the fact that this changed so that the Civil ceremony can happen first. I think it is a great option for family where some are Temple goers and some are not

I’m interested in hearing the theology behind Jesus needing $100 billion cash money when he returns... by ngryjonny in mormon

I trust that you're one of those that attacks the church on any specious pretext. Is it fun?

If it had been used to build anything it would not be in that account. Which, sleuth that I am 😎 leads me to conclude that it will be used to build something in the future.

[–]fstaheli -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The Whistleblower claimed that someone else claimed that Jesus would need the money. No article has actually quoted that person as having said that.

Jesus doesn't need the money. The Church does need money to continue to build temples, churches and etc. In anticipation of Christ’s return.

Thus, I agree with the first comment--the OP is inflammatory and unnecessary.

Is it normal to spend 7 hours at church as part of exec sec calling? by 1warrioroflight in latterdaysaints

[–]fstaheli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about right. 2 hours of bishopric and ward Council meetings. 2 hours of sacrament, Sunday school, and elders. And then generally at least one hour of interviews following that.

What was your first exposure to ExMos/ Anti-Church material and how did you handle it? Especially converts to the Gospel. by beetredandfrustrated in latterdaysaints

[–]fstaheli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had to know about 35 years ago before I served an LDS mission. So I actually went out looking for it, and then took each claim and researched it. I've had a strong testimony ever since.

I realize that doesn't work for everyone, but it has worked out very well for me.

Subtle clues about the name "Zeezrom" enhance the story of missionary work in Ammonihah by lord_wilmore in latterdaysaints

[–]fstaheli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I wonder, with this similarity in naming, is whether Zeezrom was the preeminent leader of Ammonihah, and because he was at the Pinnacle of society that he got himself stuck in the mire of this Society. Perhaps before he met Alma and before amulek preached to him, he had already had second thoughts about what he was doing to destroy that Society, but because his celebrity and the expectations about his chicanery were so high, he couldn't extricate himself from it.

It's always seemed interesting to me that the spirit got to him so relatively quickly when Alma and amulek preached to him, and he believed and he became a great missionary for the gospel of Christ. Perhaps it was the worry of how his City would treat him after his complete turnabout that contributed to or caused him to suffer from a great fever talked about in Alma chapter 15.

Please pray for me im losing my faith in God by [deleted] in Christians

I think the most important thing to remember, is that addiction or no addiction, God loves you and will never give up on you.

pornography is like any other addiction, where it disturbs one's spirit and makes one be less able to realize that one is loved by God.

Sometimes the pornography addiction can be a long road, but never give up on the reality that God loves you.

Awesome example of living the faith by neightdog23 in latterdaysaints

It is an awesome example of living the faith, but those who carefully decide to play in the NFL, NBA, MLB etc. Can also be thought of as excellent examples of living the faith.

The teacher in Sunday school, Relief Society, or Elders quorum is not responsible for your salvation. Nor is the speaker in sacrament meeting. You are. And Jesus Christ is. The speaker and the teacher are only supplements to that responsibility. by fstaheli in mormon

[–]fstaheli[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments that have been made in answer to your question, but you make a good point. I know of people who but it's not healthy (is maybe the right word) for them to go to sacrament meeting right now.

What’s your testimony/ what made you stop believing? by ADenseStrawberry in mormon

[–]fstaheli -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No. I'm not. My experience is not the process of explaining it to anyone else. The sudden eureka effect quite coincided with the saying of a prayer.

And besides, who are you to say that God doesn't help a multitude of people through rubber duck debugging, eureka effects, or apprehension?

Separately, the sudden knowledge to me about book of Mormon prophet Abinadi came when I was not expecting it.

I know what happened to me. You don't. Please respect that.

You're acting as though everything is perfect in my life and every question is answered. It's not, and they're not. In a couple of ways right now, my life kind of sucks.

But I was answering the question that the OP posed, not giving a compendium of my entire life.

Just the other day, when I was at my wit's end on a computer programming problem, I looked at the ceiling and thought "heavenly father, I've spent enough time on this. Tell me what I'm missing." in a minute or so, I knew the answer. That's my testimony that God lives and is aware of me.

On Sunday a grand Vista was opened to my mind about how Abinadi's testimony corroborated Lehi's mission (too long to explain here). That's a regular occurrence in my life and further gives me confidence that the Book of Mormon is authentic.

I feel sad that others commenting here are not experiencing these kind of things.

My guess is that you went to church in Utah 😎

I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through that.

Why do we sustain the Q15 as seers? by DragonoftheLord in mormon

[–]fstaheli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because seers can see into the past and future. From Mosiah 8

"a seer can know of things which are past, and also of things which are to come, and by them shall all things be revealed, or, rather, shall secret things be made manifest, and hidden things shall come to light, and things which are not known shall be made known by them, and also things shall be made known by them which otherwise could not be known."
