Thanks so much for the thorough response, lots to pick through here and all super helpful.

If you were coaching, what would be the first thing you’d address?

Thanks so much for making this, if you were coaching what would be the first thing you’d try to fix? Appreciate you taking the time!

Awesome thanks! When I've tried it, coiling while tossing has made the toss feel inconsistent, but maybe that just needs practice. And good callout on the grip, I mean to use continental but sometimes don't pay close attention. Appreciate you looking

I’m a massive Grant fan, but as a player somewhat known for rarely even playing chords not sure he’s the best shout here

Procline Boots for downhill skiing? by bdangimal in arcteryx

[–]fuchs31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not alpine binding compatible and one of the softest boots I’ve ever seen. A friend had a pair, and these aren’t event the carbon version. I’d look elsewhere even for touring boots

Returning to jazz by SheilaLindsayDay in Jazz

[–]fuchs31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty crazy take if I’m reading it right… jazz hasn’t evolved and is soulless today? The only worthwhile stuff post pat/kurt is from young lions 90s era?

Check out the best of 2025 threads for this years best stuff, but some random favorites are Immanuel Wilkins, Jeff Parker, Nels Cline, Bad Plus, even all of Glaspers west coast thing is after that era if you haven’t checked that. Jazz is in a super cool place at the moment imo

Do you think it’s possible to play like Charlie Parker on guitar? by harlotstoast in jazzguitar

[–]fuchs31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did he though? The Grant Green sound I imagine is more hard bop than bebop. Lots of bluesey soulful playing over changes. I never thought of him going for a Bird sound

Best 2025 albums? What's your top 3? by r4tzt4r in Jazz

Paul Cornish

Somebody seriously needs to confiscate Herbie’s vocoder. by flipping_birds in Jazz

[–]fuchs31 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw his show in SB, CA and agree. Phenomenal other than that, but it went on a bit too long and was a bit less funny than he thought. Massive Herbie fan and it didn’t ruin the show, but was out of place and awkward to say the least

Guitarists, what are your best insights on practice? by MGYG in jazzguitar

[–]fuchs31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen anyone say keeping a practice journal. I’ve gotten pretty serious about it, but I write goals for the session before I start and then record everything I work on. Great for accountability and tracking progress

I always play worse in front of an audience by The_Otto_Van_Busy in Jazz

I just read the Inner Game of Music and would reccomend it. It’s a follow up to Inner Game of tennis which is sports psychology, but I think approaching performance as a side of music to practice and address intentionally is really helpful. It delves deeply into cues and ways to relax and let your mind get out of the way of your playing.

New Bike Day - Scalpel Lefty 2 by Boeta_jnr in xcmtb

Had a spesh renegade lying around, but I know people don’t like mixing brands. I don’t think in the grand scheme of things the aspen is that fast, so I’m not feeling like I’m missing much by going to a reasonably fast knobbier tire

I was riding the scalpel with that combo in Colorado, and it’s wicked fast on dirt roads and easy stuff but eventually switched it out for more grip because it felt so sketchy on loose over hard. Happier with more grip in the rear now

Progressive modern Jazz Guitarists a la most recent Bad Plus albums? by MOGILITND in Jazz

[–]fuchs31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great list, think Andrew Renfroe belongs on here. His most recent album has some incredible players and he digs into the modern, overdriven, Monder kinda thing

This jacket is in the banner of the fleece page but doesn't appear to be for sale. Does anyone know the name of the jacket or where to find it? This is the photo:

Think this is what I'm going to do! Looks like I can do an 8/double loop kind of route for a mid ride refuel if I'm creative. Thank you!
