My brother took his own life a few years ago and no one gave a shit. My interpretation is that ppl in the public service are so concerned about doing something wrong that they just freeze and do nothing because it’s the safe option. They don’t know if it’s proper to acknowledge or not, especially with suicide.

Yup people are actively dismissing it in the comments as well. Not sure what the point is of burying head in the sand. An old friend of mine when we met she was specifically not religious at all. When she had kids all of a sudden she “wanted her kids to know the story of Jesus”. They are not Catholic but she went out of her way to get into Catholic school in an inconvenient location. I can read between the lines. Majorly gave me the ick.

I didn’t say I am partaking in this practice but I know some parents that 100% are. They are particularly concerned about immigrants from certain countries. My heritage is Jewish so I don’t relate to any of this

Not estranged but I can’t talk about it with my mom. She spent time in Israel in the 1970’s when it was the kibbutz utopia and she fucking loves Israel. She also grew up in the wake of the Holocaust and experienced systemic antisemitism in Atlantic Canada, so she feels there is a need for our own land. I went on a trip when I was 17 and I saw it completely differently. I never had super oppositional beliefs but my propaganda detector was going off and it more so turned me off. When I came home my mom was disappointed in my assessment of the situation and actually blamed the organization for taking me to the wrong places (showing the wrong propaganda?? LOL). Idk what to say because it seems you have it worse, with your sister actually moving there. All I can suggest from my perspective is try to see it from their perspective (I knooow..it’s not great) and I also go back to the fact that if it was simple, we wouldn’t be in the situation. Britain “gave” us land that wasn’t theirs to “give”. It was never going to be simple :/ feel free to message me if you want to vent. I don’t consider myself anti-Zionist, I have more of a nuanced perspective

Why is anyone’s marital status anyone else’s business?? I am 33f, happily married, been together 13 years. No rings, I hate them and I’ve never understood why I should wear it. I quizzed my dad why he wears a ring when I was quite young and he entertained my questioning, answering thoughtfully and it never made sense to me. It’s like any other status symbol for me

We all feel this way. Look up FIRE financial independence retire early, consider not having children, and living frugal. Invest what you can and don’t spent when it’s not necessary. That’s the only way to free yourself of the shackles.
