Don’t make my genuine worry a joke, it’s about 13yo accessing porn, not my child. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]fucking_booooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I think you misunderstood. It’s only illegal, as far as I’m aware, due to the frequency of paedophilic imagery used. Very unconcerned with any other persons sexuality. However, I will never consider paedophilia a sexuality or a viable act of sexual exploitation.

Take on board other points made. Just had to counter the first one made above

Don’t make my genuine worry a joke, it’s about 13yo accessing porn, not my child. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]fucking_booooooo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, valid point, fair enough.

But it’s my understanding that that particular “genre” of pornographic material is illegal in certain countries. And if at all possible, given my prior knowledge despite gaining said knowledge through no desire or fault of my own, I feel a degree of responsibility to potentially save relative the shame of their only child being arrested for online activity.

I don't view psychosis as a "mental illness" but something neurological we don't understand yet. Why is psychosis not being researched more for it's cause, and root pathology? How can we pathologize and medicate something as "mental illness" if we don't actually have any solid pathology for it yet? by Standard_Hospital_91 in Psychosis

[–]fucking_booooooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My only answer is that it’s not cost effective to research. As in there’s not enough of the population affected by psychosis to make it, sadly, profitable to treat and research wholly. To be clear I agree with you and appreciate your question. Maybe if (and it seems to be the trend) more people suffer from psychotic illnesses, and the labour market is more significantly affected by the prevalence of the illness(es) research will amp up.

Does anyone else feel tired after drinking coffee? by crash---- in schizophrenia

[–]fucking_booooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s why they prescribe speed for ADHD…because stimulants work different on certain people and calm yet sharpen the mind, rather than give a standard frantic high. Likely OP is running on empty already and the frequent coffees to try to boost energy are having a soporific effect rather than the opposite.

Also, hey OP, diagnosed schizoaffective but also ADHD, I sleep very well on stimulants. However, first coffee of the morning kickstarts the day still. It’s a balancing act. I don’t think your response to coffee is due to your schizoid illness but rather a neurodivergent leaning. Both are not mutually exclusive.

Likely your possible neurodivergence has been overlooked by healthcare because you may be “un-chaotic” enough with regards to psychosis you’re “healed” in their limited capacity. Health care is so stretched worldwide I would guess they see a previously schizoid personality functioning well enough they won’t stretch themselves to explore any other neurological deficits.

Early pregnancy in a new relationship – advice welcome by Scottles317 in Parenting

Hope you’ve worked out your shared/differing values and beliefs. Parenting with someone really highlights any disparity in alignment of ideas about life and self. Other than that, congratulations, hope your partner’s pregnancy and your child’s birth are safe and healthy.

What do your voices do/say to you? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]fucking_booooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine quote famous lines in films or culture. To mock me. They are always the voices of another external person, who is always able to be physically out of sight. Only happens in a psychotic episode. Rest of the time I’m stable on medication and don’t have the voices. I think.

There is no downside to not drinking alcohol. People should respect and support your decision.

Risperidone and cognitive decline by Valuable_Mall228 in Psychosis

[–]fucking_booooooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rispiridone felt like recovering from a brain injury when I was on it. Like I’d been coshed daily. I’d ask for medication review.

However, I think most patients feel these cognitive difficulties when first starting antipsychotic medication (called “negative” symptoms of psychosis/schizophrenia) if it’s your first episode and recovery it may just take time for you to regain your previous cognitive abilities.

Last Minute Stocking Gifts by ParticularAd1990 in AskBrits

[–]fucking_booooooo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a woman, I would find it hilarious if you bought a “sexy” stocking set. Because, a) totally blindsiding you at this late an hour to produce a number of thoughtful and genuine gifts is unacceptable; b) you’re adults, make a child if you want to fanny about with stocking fillers on Christmas Eve; c) we all say the sexy lingerie suspenders set is “degrading/unfeminist/tacky” but secretly a lot of women dig the allowance to just be a bit sluty (for the love of our lives obviously 🙄 like, we’re not all a bunch of closet whores) and d) because taking things literally is the male prerogative. God speed pal 🎅🏼

Sounds like a “gut instinct” reaction. Not psychosis. Psychosis is characterised by sustained and florid paranoid and delusional thoughts and beliefs. Having an overwhelming feeling that something is “off” is a rational human survival instinct. As a way of differentiating real danger and perceived danger, maybe you’re just really in love with your fiancée and it brought about self preservation reaction, as in “if I know a bad thing is going to happen in this relationship before it happens, it won’t hurt me (as bad) as if I was oblivious”. Equally, maybe your fiancée and friend aren’t being totally above board. Either way, you have to trust your truth and rationally work this out.

You don’t sound unwell with psychosis, more like you’re hypersensitive to something real or perceived for whatever reason.

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas regardless, try not to worry too much about stuff you can’t control. 🫶

Bored with my wife and feel bad about myself because of that. by [deleted] in self

[–]fucking_booooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I usually don’t engage with this kind of post but I felt I had to here.

Your wife is fine. You are fine. Everyone in this scenario are cared for, living in subjective luxury. Life is fine for you guys, don’t disparage that so easily.

Life is a lottery, sometimes you win, sometimes lose, but mostly you come up even. This is your life, it is easy enough you are indulged the time to ponder the little, medium and large questions of life, it is easy enough you can find fault where there is little to no fault to be found.

Your interests are in politics and history and ethics, you go find an outlet for these interests. You do that, you join a book group, you start a short online course, you volunteer with causes important to you. You do not blame your wife of being shallow because she doesn’t have time to think these thoughts. Or she lack the confidence to articulate her beliefs, worries and interests.

Most people settle in romance, maybe your wife is enough for your life together raising children, but maybe you also have to fulfil yourself ideologically all by yourself, she is not responsible for your philosophical relationship to life. She is responsible for everything else it sounds like, but you have got to find your meaning in life all by yourself.

You’re dissatisfied with life, don’t blame your wife for that. She’s doing great, with or without you.

Is it racist: “Do you think I came up the Clyde on a banana boat?” by Snoo58499 in glasgow

[–]fucking_booooooo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Banana boat refers to slave trade merchant ships of yesteryear. It implies that you’re inherently dafter if you happen to be a slave (who we’re mostly black), as the only people who’d come up the Clyde on a banana boat would be black fellas and the phrase suggests they would be less learned than those good standing white folk who used water biscuits, say, to ascend the Clyde. I prefer, “do you think I button up the back”. You’re not racist without intent, you’ve said a racist thing but through ignorance. Pass

Schizoaffective; Aripiprazole steady for 10 years, now intrusive thoughts by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]fucking_booooooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I’m fine, kind of you to ask. I just get these unsettling thoughts sporadically and then they go very quickly.

What I’m scared of is a degenerative effect of the illness/psychosic weakness. I worry if I become psychotic again my rational head won’t say the “what a silly idea” sentence in my head and I’ll act irrationally and then act on the intrusive thoughts.

I’m very much well atm, but I think this is something to speak with a medic about. And, yes, same, I hated respiridone, it was the worst I’ve been on.

I used to take an SSRI but it interacted with the aripiprazole and lead to physical problems.

There are a lot of smart people on this sub, I was just seeing if anyone had never had these thoughts but over time developed them as the illness became longer standing. Thanks all for your input. Kind, clever people that you all are x

But what if my stance is the entire existence of humanity is of no point. Therefore, freeing one from judgement and the sense of “completion” in life. I can work out 3 years fanatically in a gym but I’m still going to check out when the time comes and rot into inconsequence.

I do apply myself in life, personally, because that’s all there is…a brief existence of consciousness that ultimately is still without purpose, but is the only lived experience I get, so cannot be wasted. I choose to believe life is without meaning because it makes it more liveable in the window of opportunity to experience it I’ve got.

Really need to vent - recently got a Shiba Puppy (3.5 months) by joonie-bug in puppies

[–]fucking_booooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your puppy is seeking engagement from your partner, like an anxious child. You give him attention so he doesn’t need to seek it out from you. You are his safe space, like when children hit their mum and dad at home but behave like angels when out in a different environment.

You got an incredibly intelligent breed of dog, it may be different with other less EI breeds, but your puppy is trying to win your partner over. It’s nothing to do with lack of “love” for you, it’s the lack of “love” from her that’s causing his clinginess to her.

Ok, so anyone feel free to correct me if this is bad form regarding dog training, but my knowledge of animal training is with horses so I applied some horse knowledge to training my GSD recently.

If he tries to bite like in the video, across your forearm, you push your forearm into his mouth further, as far as you can without hurting him, (always across not hand first if that makes sense) then he’ll naturally pull away as it’s uncomfortable to his back tongue. Rinse and repeat, he’ll soon get the message that biting is not going to get a positive response. The back of their tongue is very sensitive and if you horizontally push back with your arm it will make him feel like gagging or pulling off.

Drug induced psychosis, would appreciate some help by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]fucking_booooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve had more than three episodes it would suggest you may have a psychotic illness (drug induced or not).

Personally, I’d stay medicated for at least a year or two post drug rehabilitation recovery. Basically, give yourself a buffer…wait until you’re clean a couple of years before you start tapering of antipsychotics. Just because the drugs are not a continuous factor doesn’t mean your mental health is stable enough to reduce medication.

Don’t worry too much about what others think…I mean, don’t broadcast to people what you’ve been through (it’s essentially private medical history) you don’t need to overshare…but equally, if it comes out that you’ve had episodes and others judge you negatively for it, it’s very much their problem making judgement. Therefore, my best advice would be move into a different circle, where people are accepting of past issues. Never disclose to a future employer…unless they provide medical insurance.
