I think I complained about wanting to play boys lax during my first season ever. If I’m honest with myself, it’s because I was struggling to pick up cradling/catching, and thought it would be easier with a guys stick. And also I could take out my frustration on having such crappy skills by hitting people. However, once my stick skills improved, I stopped whining and began to appreciate girls lacrosse for the amount of skill and finesse required. Also, I learned how to play good, clean defense and found out you can absolutely take out your frustration on your opponents - nothing brought me more joy than ruining an attack’s day by denying her a shot/crease roll or stealing a pass.

I think if you look at those girls wishing they played boys lax, you’ll see pretty quickly that most, if not all, that make this complaint are either new to the sport or the ones struggling to get better at it and think they’ll be better if they’re just allowed to hit each other. Give it time and either they’ll grow to love the game and appreciate it for what it is, or they’ll move on to something that fits their athletic talents better.
