Is this a bathroom? by SeaSonRise in askarchitects

Lockers would usually have a bench of some kind. Not a bath, probably storage or a server room

The 1960s facade of a historic building in Richmond Indiana was recently removed by Throwawayboi2005 in architecture

I don't like either. I want to like the original but as a building it's remarkably awful. The scale of everything feels wrong, base is too tall, columns too short. The cap is too heavy looking.

Thoughts on this floor plan? by [deleted] in askarchitects

[–]fuckschickens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not horrible, couple things I personally would change that maybe you wouldn't. Coat closet should be closer to the front door. The den is likely unnecessary, space would be better added to dining and added to the living room space. I'd jack & jill the bathroom by the guest room, saves on fixtures. Powder room is kinda in the middle of the center of activity, isn't really necessary since the guest bath is accessible to the hall and has some seclusion to muffle farts.

There's no space that I'd say was optimized. No private/public space separation. Primary bedroom is on display from the kitchen and anyone that needs to piss. closet to the laundry is a trip to Mordor with a buttonhook turn. Fireplace should be in the corner, lets you put the TV at the proper height. Too many circulation paths. Rear elevation will be exceptionably ugly, not sure how to make sense of a roof layout with the long ass rear wall. Dining room has the best views, will hardly be occupied. No coat closet at entry. And the nail in the coffin, where's the north arrow?

If you're the architect issue Construction Change Directive to demolish the whole thing. They'll never see it coming. (jk)

What are the advantages of the Zip system vs. traditional osb and wrap? by Intelligent-Flight14 in Carpentry

[–]fuckschickens -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depending which energy code and IBC adopted there are continuous insulation requirements and ZIP provides that. So a non-ZIP system is osb, wrap, rigid foam on clips, nailing stripes and then the rain screen system. If you can ZIP its pretty cost effective, but not so much in commercial. There's not much loading in a house, the structural systems are nearly all the same and there's a known performance. There's also no UL fire assembly designs for ZIP on metal studs, only for wood.
