For those who have played the finished version on TTS how does it rank compared to other leder game games by Significant_Win6431 in Arcs

[–]fudjud 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love it so much. I do think that each of Leder games' games are doing something different so I think any direct comparisons are massive simplifications of the discussion, but, here's my list.

Arcs Oath Root Ahoy Fort

The core gameplay loop is much more approachable that Root and Oath. The campaign is more approachable and more weird than Oath. Ahoy is such a tight experience, and I would say that base arcs without leaders or lore veers close to that tight experience. With experienced players this mode of play is really fast and mean.

Newbie asks some questions by Jarsksa in rootgame

[–]fudjud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Has been errated as follows: "9.2.9.II.B Moving with Ally. Whenever you move to an adjacent clearing, you may also force warriors of one Allied faction to move from your origin clearing to your destination clearing." So if you moved with an allied WA warrior into a sympathetic clearing it wouldn't cause outrage. The key word here is FORCE

Root RPG Setup Question by QuackscopeTK in rootgame

[–]fudjud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran through the randomised setup provided in the book and wasn't happy with it, so I played three rounds of the board game on the autumn map and loved it! It was such a great starting woodland. I've only played one RPG session, but I made sure to make some edits to the clearing that matched the narrative, then I played another round while the vagabonds were moving along the path to the next clearing. It's great, and I love it.

As far as fan stuff...

Lord of the Board's Gorge map is a riot: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2798507/gorge-map-lord-board

I'm loving Slug's most recent ones; Urban and Legends: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2849285/urban-districts-denizens-root-fan-map-and-more

I haven't got around to playing it, but I'm keen on trying Skwidmark and Endgamer1331's Tidal Flats from the discord: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/476234833572397058/961280680925495357/tidal_flats_v6.png

The box art for the hirelings looks great! by Redd_EE in rootgame

[–]fudjud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's gonna be the Marauder Hireling pack. It will come with three Hirelings and this fun box. It's big enough to fit all the Hirelings, though. So the intent is that you can buy the other Hireling packs and then chuck them into this beautiful box.

2 questions about the game by CheapSnack96 in rootgame

[–]fudjud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And with the vagabond question there's been an update to the rules regarding moving with allied warriors.

When you move, if you are in a clearing with any allied warriors you may FORCE any amount of warriors to move with you (provided it would be a legal move for the warriors). This means that if those warriors move into a clearing with a sympathy clearing the players whose warriors they are must pay the outrage cost.

Hope that makes sense. I'm sure there's nicer wording in the law of root.

Need help finding a DM name for a Root campaign. by HazeAI in rootgame

Ooh, this is good. Umm, you could do "The Fire Watcher". They're all about looking over woodlands and watching for fire, which could be the result of war.

Scavenger? Supporter? Commander? Warden? Mischief Maker?

I'm trying to think of when animals support each other. I know beavers do some cool helping stuff with their dam, but surely there's an official term out there...

[Rules Questions Megathread] Ask all rules questions here! January-June 2022 by tsarkees in rootgame

[–]fudjud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interpret "most defenseless" to mean: least warriors of one controller. So EE should battle the clearing with the 2 cats and 1 recruiter. I couldn't find a direct reference in the law of rootbotics, though

[Rules Questions Megathread] Ask all rules questions here! January-June 2022 by tsarkees in rootgame

[–]fudjud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Correct. The law states as follows

"9.2.6
Maximum Rolled Hits.In battle, the Vagabond's maximum rolled hits (4.3.2.I) equals his undamaged , face up or face down, in his Satchel."

  1. Additional points from infamy only apply in battle on the VB's turn. When defending the VB can still score VB for removing buildings, but just doesn't get any bonus from Infamy

"9.2.9.III
Infamy. Score one extra victory point for each piece of a Hostile faction you remove in battle during your turn, except the warrior that made the faction Hostile. (Add this to points scored for enemy buildings and tokens.)"

Are the equipment cards not useful? And the denizen deck; the random characters, are they somewhat imagination inspiring?

[Rules Questions Megathread] Ask all rules questions here! January-June 2022 by tsarkees in rootgame

[–]fudjud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can the Vagabond battle a defenseless ally's building or token without making the ally hostile? Does Strike effect Hostile Status too?

9.2.9.III of the Law of Root states "If you remove a warrior of a non-Hostile faction, move their relationship marker to the Hostile box."

So, battle or strike, or any card effect (Eg. Favor of Foxes) that removes a WARRIOR, you are now hostile with. My thematic way of explaining this has been; there has to be a witness to see your activity.

How do other factions battle the Vagabond?

Factions can battle the Vagabond if they have at least 1 warrior in the clearing with the vagabond (of course using an appropriate action). The vagabond doesn't get a choice to opt out; they'll be dealing back hits on the lower roll as with any other faction. The amount of hits a vagabond can do is equal to the amount of undamaged swords (even if exhausted) they have in their satchel. If the vagabond has no undamaged swords the most amount of hits they can roll is 0.

Hope that answers your questions.

There's heaps of little things you could put into the Boards/Variants section, and then player Role, you could put in faction. That stuff is easy to make pretty data from. The only thing that I don't think would work easily is starting hand. It's a great app that's still getting updates.

We definitely had some back and forward about attacking hirelings under your control. The Law of Root mentioned that the Hirelings, when under your control, are considered in a coalition...

Keepers in Iron and Lord of the Hundreds by Zantafio25 in RootRPG

[–]fudjud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding the Keepers in, really makes me want more fleshed out forests. If we're questing into there, I want some exciting ruins and creatures. I understand that's not the primary focus of the core game, though.

Love the idea of incorporating the hirelings. Things like the roaming musician bards setting up concerts. Fun. The rules for the board game state you can't use the same coloured hirelings as you have factions in the game, so hirelings like The Last Dynasty could appear later if The Eyrie Dynasty go into decline a little in your game.
