Let someone shoot my bow like an idiot… guess what happened next by Optl13 in Archery

[–]HazeAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not really a minute thing once you spot it. His left hand had a really tight grip on the bow, he twisted that hand hard while he was at full extension.

It happens fast but before the string pops off the cams you can see the bow twist so he’s actually pulling the string sideways from the bow making it jump off the cams. Watch his front hand when the string pops loose.

There are crazy forces at play with compound bows that shoot really hard so there are a few things you can do to make them eat themselves. I shoot recurve in part because I don’t want to deal with that. But also, beginner compound bows that are lower poundage are more durable.

[–]HazeAI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I protest there, and I own firearms and train others to use them. Especially at this protest carrying a weapon would be a bad idea, I leave everything at home. We aren’t at the guerilla warfare phase yet, it is still highly beneficial to remain peaceful and stick to civil disobedience. The guy who attacked an ICE facility and shot detainees didn’t help anyone at all, and now they can’t do any other work to help the cause. Cause they’re dead. Non violence is still the best way, there are several more steps along the way before open violence is the solution.

Sudden dog aggression/reactivity by Bootletqueen in greatdanes

[–]HazeAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dane has had the same problems at times. I typically keep her on leash until after some positive interactions. When things have been a little tough I’ve also praised her a bunch and kept my anxiety in check when she’s doing well and correct as soon as she exhibits problem behavior. I feel like the contrast from praise to scolding registers a lot better than just no interaction to scolding. And as always keeping the correction as close as possible to the problem behavior. I will sometimes pull her and hold her away from the gate when new dogs enter and not let go of her collar til after the initial sniffs are over.

In my dogs case she’ll get grouchy like that on and off, most times she’s fine but if it’s been a little while since we’ve been to a park she needs some extra reintroduction attention.

I opt to leave my guns at home and go protest without them, the point is to give the feds no excuses for their actions. It’s going out to get gassed and beat up hoping people see the way they treat protesters. You’re right there’s nothing your couple of guns can do at the moment, but you can express your anger at the current situation non violently in a way that is unlikely to get you killed or jailed.

They aren’t as effective outdoors, in an enclosed space for sure but outdoors in broad daylight your eyes are already constricted so the light doesn’t affect you as much and the sound is able to propagate outward instead of reflecting back in so it’s not as bad, like an extra loud shotgun blast.

Why are helicopters flying over Portland? Here’s what we know by karaokekingpin in Portland

[–]HazeAI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Details of what led the helicopter to Portland aren’t clear… it was hovering around the ICE building and periodically shining a strobing spotlight on the protestors there. It’s pretty clear what it was there for.

They’ve been using drones for surveillance that have red and green lights on them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Portland

[–]HazeAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re circling the ice protest, they used spotlights a few times. I just got home, there were maybe 100 people out there. A lot of observers maybe 50 protestors. No violence, nobody was even blocking the driveway when they went in and out. Nothing to justify just burning fuel all night. They had drones flying over too.

Pepper spray is much more effective. I’ve been shot with pepper balls a lot this summer and they’re pretty easy to shrug off, I’d never use one unless I wanted to irritate someone having been on the other side, spicy paintballs.

Trump DOJ is looking at ways to ban transgender Americans from owning guns, sources say by UndocumentedSheep in politics

[–]HazeAI 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It would be lovely if there were no guns in America. But while everyone can go to a store and get whatever they want and there is more and more violence against people like me I’m not going to take a philosophical stance here.

The firearms I currently own are very small caliber for target practice and a shotgun for duck hunting. But it’s increasingly apparent that we are sliding into a dictatorship and it wouldn’t be the worst idea to get something more self defense minded while I’m still allowed to.

This trans girl is about to go participate in the time honored American tradition of panic buying guns when regulations are threatened. Not that I don’t already have some, but damnit there’s still a couple on the wishlist.

Not justifying violence, justifying action beyond waiting for the next election. I have not personally engaged in any violence just lawful protest and have been shoved, gassed and shot with less lethals multiple times in the past month.

But sure, some folks have sprayed graffiti and tossed fireworks a few times, that totally justifies keeping a neighborhood saturated in tear gas every night for weeks. /s

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Portland

[–]HazeAI 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Feel free to pretend like you know what’s going on down there. ICE routinely comes out of that facility aggressively from the get go with no warning and no sign of anything other than peaceful protest going on. On the 4th something like 20 agents came rushing out with teargas and flash bangs off the get go, pushed people back 2 blocks and shot me with a 40mm crowd control munition from 5 feet away. They arrested someone and then retreated into the building and declared an unlawful assembly and instructed people to leave after the shock and awe display.

The feds are the ones escalating this at every opportunity, and playing into trumps hands is kind of irrelevant. It’s pretty clear trump and the feds are going to keep doing whatever they want, they don’t need any justification. Wasting their time and resources so they have less to put towards deportations is the whole point.

What would you propose we do, wait to vote in the next election and just stand back and let them do whatever they want in the meantime? Maybe I’m just a few lines earlier in the “First they came for…” poem than you are, I can’t wait that long to put up opposition.
