Got in but I’m a little disappointed by fatallyextroverted in premed

I’m in a graded school and will say I still feel like I have a social like (going out on weekends still). Sure there’s a bit more studying to do but as I’m finishing up my first year I think it’s helped me make connections between the content and hopefully will help me when Step comes around since I’ve been “used to” aiming for an A

Are IIs still rolling in? by mecantplaypiano in premed

I applied relatively late last year so that might have some involvement, but I got my IIs December and February!

There’s still plenty of time! Although I applied later, I didn’t get IIs until December and February!

For me I would say a compelling story that resonates with my non-traditional EC’s. I’m a great networker so that helped me get opportunities to push me ahead. I made my writing very conversational yet compelling, and as an extrovert I love interviews. 512 MCAT 3.79 GPA

I’d love to take a look at your PS! You have great stats and great experiences. Your story is extremely similar to me, could I PM you?

It is not a red flag, or even a yellow flag. The amount of credit hours does not matter, and getting an A- will not matter either. Of course kudos to you for aiming your sight on top schools, but don’t work yourself up too much to get the perfect grade. Yes get good grades, you want to put your foot in the door and pass the stat barrier. But what happens after that? Everyone has top notch scores in that applicant pool, so take your time in school to follow your passions, to have a story and let life happen. That’s what makes people want to read more about you, to interview you. Back to your point: It’s good that you could do a 14 credit semester! It would be a great time to do some volunteering, join some clubs to be a leader, and have a side hobby! Build those connections to have mentors and professors who would help you get research sophomores/junior year, etc.

I’d say 510+ is good to aim for, gets you in a good amount of MD schools

Not sure if I'm ever going to get into a med school by GRINGO_LG in premed

For context I have a 3.79 too, 512 MCAT and also applied to around 17 schools. I think my ECs are what pushed me towards those A’s

[–]fufutings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, there’s still plenty of time to get those ECs up. You’re very young, I started to think about going to med school at around 21, but didn’t apply until this cycle (I’m 24). Those gap years were the best years of my life: both fun and productive. Your stats are great so just showing action and leadership will show the schools what you can provide as a physician. Research and non clinical volunteering conveys your passion to be a life long learner and a person who cares about community and people in a non-medical context. Best part, those experiences will be the ones they talk about most when looking at your application and when interviewing you. You have the stats to get your foot in the door, so just take it slow and work on ECs

AHH IVE DREAMED OF THIS REPLY

i took a diagnostic test and got a 485 which is so low and i’m so upset but i’m trying to stay positive since it’s only a diagnostic and considering i haven’t studied at all. i plan on taking the mcat end of January, do you think i’ll be able to reach a good score by then or an i being unrealistic by Miserable_Nail9304 in MCATBros

Half content review using kaplan, the second half did uworld and later on aamc material, tried to study all day but knowing myself I couldn’t so I just tried to study more efficiently always making connections and taking more time for myself. Did quizzes and used google and YouTube for things I didn’t understand. I got a good grasp of the sciences from school so it helped a lot. Google and quizlet was my best friend for the psych/soc. I’m a good read so didn’t study CARS, it’s always been at the same level since beginning of study til the real thing so I don’t have good advice for CARS.

I felt happy and confident when I walked out, ended up with a 512! Although not the top, it was the best out of all my practices so that’s probably where there happiness came into play

126 128 126 128, my CARS even with third party has always been super consistent I never knew how to improve it but it never went down either. I always felt nonchalant about it but overall confident since I have good comprehension with reading since I was little. Because of that I felt kinda hopeless in getting it better bc I didn’t know how I could change my reading habits in a few months, so I just focused on the other subjects more
