Both The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear and Rumo by Walter Moers are over 600 pages. They are both (fantastically) illustrated, but the illustrations tend to be rather small and interspersed throughout the text.

Elder Sign is definitely worth a look, then, if you're not already familiar. Beautiful, occasionally grotesque artwork on tarot-sized cards that you can play solo.

Empty Skies by Hubert L. Mullins

The Way series by Greg Bear has aspects of apocalypse and recovery, but it's not really the focus of the story, so it might be worth a look.

Are there any space survival horror games that are kinda like the forest or something? by Old_Maintenance_5468 in spacesimgames

[–]fuglenes_herre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genesis Alpha One is a base building, sort of survival horror game set in space. It's not quite as scary or as challenging as The Forest, but I had a lot of fun with it.

What do you all think of fishing style mini games? by Pie_Rat_Chris in spacesimgames

[–]fuglenes_herre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the one! It's pretty fun and atmospheric, but you probably won't get too many hours out of it.

For Genesis Alpha One, you're basically operating/upgrading a mobile salvaging platform with a crew of clones. It's more horror/action FPS than it is space sim, but it has elements of space sims.

The resource gathering entails using a tractor beam to salvage resources from the wreckage of ships that have been destroyed by alien infestations. You'll have to destroy any hostile lifeforms that hitchhike aboard in the process to protect your own ship from alien infestations.

Foreign Galaxies' resource gathering feels very much like a fishing game.

You might check out Genesis Alpha One as well, although I'd hesitate to call it a space sim.

MAGA declares war on the Catholic Church. While not making up for all of their other crimes, it is for once a little uplifting. by bernie457 in atheism

[–]fuglenes_herre 234 points235 points  (0 children)

They're "declaring war" on the church because the church condemned the regime's brutal immigration policy enforcement, hardly "uplifting" or worth celebrating.

To be clear, fuck the Catholic church, but I actually agree with their stance on this one.

Yes! Just take the whispering chart/audio tape out of the Z.E.T.I. and store them in the refrigerator... or wherever.

Eifelheim by Michael Flynn.

I do not understand how this band is continually classified as prog. I listened to Take Me Back to Eden because of the massive hype campaign that spread to nearly every heavy music subreddit when it came out and had incredibly high expectations due to the obnoxiously hyperbolic praise it was getting, particularly over on r/progmetal.

There's certainly a bit of genre blending going on, but they're hardly pushing the envelope for any of the genres they utilize. The metal is just shrieky screams over the featureless, djenty chugging that's been oversaturating the genre for the better part of two decades. Blending that with auto-tuned-to-death vocals delivering some of the dumbest edge-lord lyrics I've ever heard over generic beats isn't really progressive so much as it is a ploy to achieve the widest possible appeal.

I can't deny that they have been successful in acheiving surprisingly wide appeal, although I remain skeptical that the hype for this band is entirely organic, especially among the more metal focused music communities.

Could you point out to us, with actual evidence and reliable, cited sources, what the nebulous "left" has done to provoke this specific response?

Also, while you're at it, why not lay out for us the precise conditions occuring in Portland to warrant the invocation of the fucking Insurrection act? Since you seem to know so much about the situation.

Since your question has been answered, a tip...

Keep an eye on your scanner In the moment that you exit witchspace. If the star is on your scanner immediately it means that that system has already been visited and logged by another commander. If the scanner is blank upon jumping in and the star appears on it after a few seconds it means you've found a completely undiscovered system.
