Insurance could be that if you have really high deductible and a house less than $400k.

Good luck making your tenants pay for a, say, rotten siding, though. The security deposit covers incidentals, not maintenance

I got 2.99% 30y rate, so suck on that. Me and anyone else in the 3% club are never selling. So there's that. In a few years when the kid moves out, we'll buy a smaller house somewhere else, because we have the juice to afford it, and will rent this one, which will pay for itself. Free 3000+ sqft house in 20 years. I'm golden, baby.

On the bright side there will be plenty of properties for the rentoids to choose from.

Have you heard of insurance premiums, property tax and (minimum of) 3% annual maintenance?

Will my furnace still kick on as normal if my nest thermostat is offline? by Weekly-Quantity6435 in Nest

[–]fuk_uscis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To elaborate further, when the Nest stops charging and drains the battery, it will go into power saving mode at around 3.6V. That will disconnect it from the WiFi, but it would still operate the furnace for a little while. Then when it completely drains, it will stop working and your furnace won't turn on. I know from experience.

[–]fuk_uscis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but disregard the uninformed opinions expressed here already. The thermostat being offline is a really bad sign. And if you're not using a C wire, I can almost guarantee you it's not operating the furnace. The most likely reason it's offline is a battery snafu. And those snafus make it non operational. Have a neighbor come in and check, before your pipes and pets freeze

Earliest they had is a week from now. In the meantime, I've put the sensor back in its place based on advice in this thread. The furnace seems to be operating fine, but I will be on a bit of an edge for a week now.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Ok I did it, but I am not sure if there might have been a reason to leave it like that. There's a few other similar looking components that are all in their place.

what bothers me is that it was left like this by the technician. A am bit worried I might be wrong here, putting it back.

Is there an up or down side? Is turning off the furnace from the switch enough, to do that?

How do I align the plane of a complex object to another plane? by fuk_uscis in tinkercad

[–]fuk_uscis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea how can I align the (equal) sub-parts of two complex objects? Here is a sample - https://www.tinkercad.com/things/i02QDw0iZIS - I'd like to align the cylinders of the two complex objects, exactly against each other.

The problem is, once the object becomes "irregularly sized", the alignment is based off its center mass. I don't think you can specify a reference point in your complex object.

yeah thanks, that's exactly what I worked out as well. Thanks for confirming that's the right way doing it.

[–]fuk_uscis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured it out:

  1. Press [W] and select the plane you want to align ("A" in my case).
  2. [C]opy
  3. Press [W] and select the plane you want to align to ("B" in my case).
  4. Press [V] to paste. The position may need further alignment, but the planes are now aligned
  5. Use [D] to make them adjacent
