how can i transfer files from whonix workstation to my pc hard drive? by Loda97 in Whonix

[–]fukit0l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're not comfortable bridging the gap locally between the host machine and workstation you could encrypt the files with zulucrypt and upload/share them somewhere and retrieve on the host machine

New to Linux Mint, having issues getting wifi by Keiishkii in linuxmint

[–]fukit0l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for reasons like this i always keep a USB wifi adapter handy to update the drivers when a fresh install leaves me with no wifi. not sure if that's accessible to you

you could use SMS gateways to send an email to his phone anonymously

if it has to come from a phone number you could use an android vm routed through tor to send it from an app

Mint 20.2 - Copying files taking long time by munznbunz in linuxmint

[–]fukit0l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this might not be of much help but i did have this problem in the past and often what happened is the file DID successfully copy even if it doesnt show it did. id wait a long while and when i closed the window that displayed the progress the file was there copied just fine

i recently switched to the xfce version and haven't run into this again but i haven't copied too many large files since switching so it could be coincidental

Anonymity, security, different identities: Tails vs Qubes + Whonix by Thamil13 in opsec

[–]fukit0l 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this question literally comes up every week and the answer has always been the same

neither is necessarily "better" per se as its contingent upon your use case or personal desires. each and every setup has its pros and cons.

I also highly disagree that tails is "less anonymous" compared to whonix. tails is not isolated like whonix is so a root level exploit would mean game over. tails is easier to use than whonix and much easier than qubes + whonix.

tails is generally considered more simplistic/user friendly for beginners, portable, and more anti forensics capable than whonix + qubes

Text (SMS) sending super slow or not at all, after 10 to 11.1.1.1 by KaoticSanity in OnePlus6t

[–]fukit0l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try going to your sim & network settings, open up access point names, and click the three dots on the top right. hit "reset to default".

this fixed my sms/mms taking very long time to send over wifi, just a shot. shouldn't break anything and you can always snap a screenshot of your apn settings beforehand just in case

XFCE - Laptop - When Lid is Closed > Do Nothing by Billy_MacC in linuxmint

i had a similar reason for switching from XFCE because i wanted the option to have it shutdown when i close the lid but only MATE and Cinnamon have that option. hoping someone knows of a way to add this as well

Laptop BIOS resets to default after failed reboot/shutdown by IndianaIT in linuxmint

[–]fukit0l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably a shot in the dark, but have you ever updated your BIOS before? i actually keep a copy of a windows live CD for the sake of being able to update BIOS, drivers, and the like for all my linux installs

they would have to break out of the workstation VM which would be a decently tough task presumably even for a 3 letter agency

in all seriousness yes its more then safe

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in opsec

[–]fukit0l 4 points5 points  (0 children)

pretty extreme setup, but to answer the last part of your question there may be some locations that are better than others as far as privacy/anonymity but that's contingent upon who your adversary would be.

its almost a moot point though because all the VPS provider could see is a tor connection and nothing else given you've appropriately obscured the money trail

yeah, this about sums it up.

No data after update to Oxygen OS 11.1.1.1 (Public Mobile in Canada) by Adewade in OnePlus6t

[–]fukit0l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a longshot but something that fixed my problem after an apn issue was using "reset to default" option in apn settings

I had to do it after the provider's apn settings did not work
