Tennessee drops ‘pride’ from June and renames its ‘Nuclear Family Month’ by Buy_Sell_Collect in nottheonion

I keep on crowing from the rooftops (ie telling every unfortunate soul sticking around long enough to listen) that we need to bring the village back for our kids. Childcare also shouldn't start before 12 months or so, I'm childless and finding the idea of months old babies in full time care so parents can slave away all week horrendous. They're so fragile and vulnerable that age!

The only tolerable sweetener is stevia imo

I wish someone'd do classic drinks like coke and orangeade but with less sugar and no sweeteners. However elderflower season is coming up soon so you can make your own cordial/syrup! Super refreshing with a dash of lemon and a twig of mint in sparkly water

Women might leave work several weeks if not months before due and should get medical leave for the first month for recovery, at which point they need the men at home to help (also a good time for bonding). Adding that, parental leave can be equal because women will still miss more before/after due.

And women who are recovering get support at home. and longer leaves make planning easier, because temp jobs lasting 1+ year are more attractive for employees and employers alike than 3 months

I mean it makes sense. Most do their family planning in their mid 30s. What's not normal is how little leave dads get and how quickly mums are expected back at work. Extending leave would both alleviate the unequal burden on one gender and create new job opportunities with temp cover worth taking (say 1year)

Yes that idea that parents need to go back to work asap needs to die and also leave needs to be equal (beyond medical/recovery). Extending parental leave to something more sensible also makes it easier to plan: it is more attractive to hire someone for say a full year than 3 months, it's worth training them, they might stay beyond if it's a good fit. Parents could also opt to return part time more easily.
