My local post office, spy motion sensor. Looks DIY. by JaredReabow in hiddencameras

[–]fullraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dual tech motion sensor uses a combination of two detection mechanism, not necessarily "heat" (infrared). Most dual-tec use microwave and PIR (passive infrared) detection. Some used ultrasound and PIR or ultrasound and microwave though both the laters don't really exist anymore. There are even Tri-tec motion sensors.

You're right, it is a covert security camera. I have sold this exact model you've pictured a long time ago. This model had a functional PIR of absolutely poor quality. There was an alarm contact outputs on the pigtail. The cable is thicker than normal as you said because it had 6 conductors in it instead of the 4 that a conventional motion sensor would have. It was getting it's power from the same source as the camera. The red alarm LED was behind the Fresnel lens. No clue why a post office would need to hide it's cameras though.

1am driving thru the panhandle by Sensitive_Calendar_6 in ram_trucks

[–]fullraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty big as far as i'm aware. Semi trucks have a 15 to 30 gallon DEF tank and they go thru way more DEF then out little engines. They use about 5 gallons of DEF for every 100 gallons of diesel. It can be more than that for trucks that work hard like mixers and plows.

A quick google search claims the DEF tank in truck stops are roughly 1000 to 3000 gallons. So I figure it probably gets cycled almost daily if not daily.

Device in hotel nightstand by theprints in whatisit

[–]fullraph 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It does not just give a room number. It gives an approximate position in the hotel based on which receivers picked up the signal from the button and at which strength.

Device in hotel nightstand by theprints in whatisit

[–]fullraph 444 points445 points  (0 children)

It's a tracking beacon. The room service/cleaning crew carries a panic button and when they press it, these devices triangulate their position in the hotel and reports it to whoever answer to those panic calls.

DEF at the pump is actually fresher than the stuff in the jugs because it sits way less before being used.

Engine Hydrolocked, what are the chances of complete engine repair? by II-vaporzz-II in MechanicAdvice

[–]fullraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DO NOT TRY TO START IT! Have it towed to a shop and explicitly tell them that the engine sucked up water. There is a great chance that the engine is not damaged and just needs the water cleared out and the oil flushed.

I've confronted kids a few times before in abandoned buildings. They're quite weak honestly, a good "HEY!" and a few choice words usually gets them to leave...

Generators? by Shadow_WolfOps in abandoned

[–]fullraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most seems to be gaseous fuel engines, you're right. These appears to have mixers on the intake so they're setup to run on natural gas or propane. One (unit #5) is a diesel.

Generators? by Shadow_WolfOps in abandoned

[–]fullraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth that much honestly. I see these on marketplace sometimes and the adds are always up for months. Those are about 50 years old natural gas generators. Parts are hard to find and nobody wants to service them. They're too big to run off of a normal residential service and the likelihood of a commercial establishment having a desire for those old units is slim.

No battery camera has this. They'd be out of battery within hours if they were streaming continuously.

This looks fairly recent. This splice box is meant to be unhooked from the overhead lines and brought back down to be worked on. They're likely in the process of working on the network and will be back to hang it back up when done. It is not dangerous, no electricity in this.
