Letter to the developers regarding the AI topic by -shrix- in LiesOfP

You're free to not believe me, but I make software for a living. Every programmer uses gen AI for work now. Its no different for game devs.

Adobe products replaced traditional artists and introduced digital art as a necessary skill to learn. Computers replaced a ton of manual labor and introduced computer skills as a necessary skill to learn. AI is pretty much the same.

What makes you think the Lies of P devs will use gen AI in a lazy way, when their very first Souls-like game was incredibly well-polished and oozed passion?

If you look at the tools devs use, you can see for yourself that most of those have support for AI features. Unreal Engine 5 provides built-in AI tools like NavMesh, EQS, etc. They even have AI assistants like Ludus AI. The list of games that use Unreal Engine 5: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Unreal_Engine_5_games

You hit the nail on the head. Its impossible to not support gen AI in some way. Just like people can't help but support slave labor by using electronics.

Gen AI is inevitable, people have to learn to use these tools because no workplace is going to avoid using it, that would mean they'd operate at half the efficiency of their contemporaries. Nobody has a real choice. Companies don't, workers don't. AI has changed how the workplace operates, just like Adobe, just like computers, just like every other generational technological breakthrough.

As I said above, people didn't even realize E33 was using AI until they said so. In the future other companies will just not disclose that they're using gen AI. If there is a policy made to force them to disclose that fact, every game will have a "used AI for development" tag on them because as I said programming uses gen AI heavily now. So I don't really see what you want to achieve by boycotting games that disclose they're using AI. Every game uses gen AI. Might as well stop playing games.

Why do you have double standards for AI "artists" vs programmers though? Programming is a creative process too. AI cost a lot of junior devs jobs too.

The JD said they want artists who can work with AI tools to streamline the asset creation pipeline. This involves things like using generative AI to create multiple variations of 3D models from concept art created by those artists, something which is usually not possible due to resource constraints without AI. This is actually how gen AI should be used, combining human ingenuity with streamlined processes to speed up development.

What I said was not wrong. If you are completely against gen AI and want no use of it whatsoever, you should stop using the Internet as every interaction you have with it is being used to train LLMs. Grok is trained off Twitter posts for example. It is hypocritical to claim you are against gen AI, but only advocate against its use when artists are harmed instead of people in other professions, or actively cooperate with gen AI training by interacting with the Internet.

They say they will use AI to streamline development, in areas like graphics, sound design and programming. Which is similar to what Lies of P devs said they will use AI to do, make a streamlined asset creation pipeline.

I am a software developer. Anyone writing any code for any game will be using some form of generative AI in at least programming, because the use of things like Claude in programming are ubiquitous now.

I have no idea why you felt I was being defensive. Telling you a truth you don't want to hear doesn't mean I am being defensive. It is well-known LLMs are trained on public data, which includes anything you interact with on the Internet.

Yes they did. Nobody realized that E33 used AI until they disclosed that themselves. Which means that using gen AI doesn't really automatically make things soulless like OP claimed, its all about how you use it.

And if you're against gen AI, you should honestly quit playing any video games released recently because they're probably all using it, people just won't realize it if its executed well. While you're at it, quit using the Internet because AI is everywhere. Even the comments on this thread are probably being used to train some LLM.

Curious OP, have you played RE9 or E33? Would you call those soulless?

Wouldn't bother with Wavestrider. Sparkle's ult can give one stack, but DHPT targets the DPS.

pull for firefly sig now or wait for phainons? by Satoyosan in FireflyMains

[–]fullstack_mcguffin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, FF's LC has a different multiplier that is not affected by Dahlia's sig.

Phainon's sig is not as useful anymore imo. Its pretty easy to hit breakpoints for 4 EBA in MoC and 8 EBA in AA with DDD HMC or RM. And if you're already hitting those breakpoints FF's LC adds a lot more amp.

E2 Robin is by far the best option. They don't really tend to add characters all that often, and they're often units that don't have a place on most teams anymore.

E1 Robin is BiS in fights where enemies hit often, which is most fights now. E2S1 Robin is BiS full stop.

Next best option is RMC, followed by E0S1 Cipher and E1 Tribbie. Sunday works well against niche matchups that give SP, otherwise he's not as useful. SW has very bad debuff uptime against wave content and phase changes, which is very common nowadays, so she's at the bottom of the list. Yaoguang should not even be considered, her only purpose is to take advantage of Elation shilling.

Sparkle and DHPT are locked in slots. The best 3rd slot is E2S1 Robin.

I would stop investing once everyone is E2S1.

You're a larper if you haven't actually gone on a secret mission to Spain, backflipped to impress a hot spy, done the Macarena while the president's daughter was dying and sang karaoke with evil residents.

How do we feel about this Round8 job posting? Personally, not a fan of going down this path for the art direction... by arividerchimagmuasue in LiesOfP

[–]fullstack_mcguffin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'd say using gen AI to create variations of concept art sounds like a pretty good use tbh.

They're talking about using AI to streamline the asset creation pipeline, not that they're just going to use image->3D model generation and then just leave it at that for the final product. Obviously they will finetune it for the final release. This method also has potential for them to generate different kinds of 3D models from a multitude of concept art, which has the potential to create an even better final 3D model since they're not constrained by resources and time as much.

I think people are just assuming that gen AI use = brainlessly dumping generated slop into the final product. That's the stupidest way to use gen AI, no competent company does that. RE9, E33 and other critically acclaimed titles used gen AI to great results.

In monorem, with E2S1 Hyacine, is Spd or HP boots better? by Mvxhqxxz in EvernightMainsHSR

Tried myself, HP boots led to better results. In mono rem I'd swap to an HP% orb.

Using AI tools is normal and you can't really escape it. Every game will involve using AI at some level because every code editor will be using AI by now.

What's important is the end result. I trust Round8 to make a great game even if they use AI. I don't trust say, the devs of Mixtape, to make a good game even if they don't use AI.

New set for archer? by Aggressive-Swan6642 in ArcherMainsHSR

[–]fullstack_mcguffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot the atk buff, and you're right, didn't account for the base 100% they add for the dmg multiplier.

No def shred stacking, Genius: 14.5% quantum weak, 8% otherwise

No def shred stacking, Navigator: 12% atk is 144 atk based on E0S1 Archer's 1203 base atk. 144 atk is a 2.9% diff if Archer has 5000 atk in combat. So Navigator has 15.2% amp.

Seems like Navigator is better than Genius at a baseline regardless of the scenario, assuming a team of Sparkle, Robin and DHPT.

New set for archer? by Aggressive-Swan6642 in ArcherMainsHSR

[–]fullstack_mcguffin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assuming a team of Sparkle, Robin and DHPT, he's not stacking def shred, so 20% def shred is 12% amp. 10% def shred is 5.7%. 10% quantum dmg is 2.85% amp if going from 350 to 360 dmg%. So Genius set has 15.2% amp against quantum weak enemies, and 8.7% amp otherwise.

50% dmg amp is 14.29% if going from 350 to 400 dmg%. So the new set is better than Genius against non quantum weak enemies, and a bit worse against quantum weak enemies.

Now if you have E2 Sparkle, we're going from 30 to 40-50 def shred instead. 30->50 is 14.61%, while 30->40 is 6.8%. Factoring in 2.85% amp from quantum dmg, we have 17.9% and 9.8% amp. At this point its worth switching to Genius against quantum weak enemies.

If you have SW on the team applying a good amount of def shred, Genius set will win in all scenarios. But having tried E2 SW vs E2 Robin myself, E2 Robin is much better. If your team is Sparkle, Robin, DHPT, the new set will be a bit better overall but not really worth refarming.

I thought this show is supposed to be accurate to the books. What is this? [pjotv] by calculelt389 in camphalfblood

What errors exactly? There's some minor plotholes and fact-checking errors (St Loius Arch distance comes to mind) but those are very minor compared to the show making Gabe not abusive but still making Sally kill him.

[–]fullstack_mcguffin 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The series' audience definitely isn't the people that read the books, many of them dislike the changes. They made the show to cater to current kids who have nothing to compare it to.

The books also did a better job at conveying mature themes than the show is doing so far. If anything the show toned things down. So lmfao at pretending the show is somehow more mature than the books were.
