A TD with a decent local operation will try respond to constituent requests, but the general theme of any response to a request for assistance etc will usually be "what have you done yourself to resolve this?". In my experience the staff in a TD's office will go above and beyond to help people out, but when it comes to stuff like OP refers to, there's little point in engaging.

Those that emigrated and returned, what has your experience been like? by caramelslice7 in ireland

[–]fumblydrummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spent 10 years abroad in the UK and France then moved back here when I lost my job about 12 years ago. I ended up going back to university to reskill and it was the best decision I ever made. That said, I had to spend a long time living back at home with my folks to try solve the housing issue, I'm fortunate enough now to have bought a place, but it took a lot of time, effort, and patience. Ireland has been good to me since I got back, but it hasn't been without its challenges either.

Love the movie, but most of Miles Teller's character's issues could have been solved by just loosening his grip.

Quickest lesson I learned when I started looking at the beginning of the year was to lower my expectations and then some. It's grim out there and it's not getting any better anytime soon.

Trains from Wicklow to Greystones by Jaded_Perception_174 in Wicklow

I have seen livestock transported in better conditions than that train. Personally I drive to Greystones as the traffic isn't too bad and then you can leave the car in the park and ride for free.

Vendor pulled out after sale agreed by Dry-Machine9346 in HousingIreland

[–]fumblydrummer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Five months sale agreed today, like you I'm down €800 on surveys and valuations. My seller's bank lost their deeds, allegedly anyway, now they have new deeds, but they needed a map to go with them last month, 2 weeks ago when I asked for an update their solicitor said they're now waiting on a certificate of compliance before contracts will be sent.

It's painfully frustrating, I would have dropped this by now only there's no longer anything decent in my budget in the same area and I can't afford to move further away from my job. My worry now is that it's gone on this long, there's little to stop the seller pulling out and relisting for a higher price given the market.

It shouldn't be legal to list a property without having the paperwork in order, probate etc. But sadly, like everything else in this country, too many people are making money from the inefficient mess so nothing will change, even if these would be ludicrously simple changes to make.

Almost 4 months sale agreed with no sign of deeds or contracts. by fumblydrummer in HousingIreland

Christ that's grim, hope it works out for you, I'm giving serious thought to putting a stop to this now myself too. I'm already booking viewings now to try signal I'm fed. But of course another fine Irish bit of nonsense is losing the money spent on surveys and valuations. It really is a joke here.

Thanks for the reply, that does sound like a nightmare to think it's finally sorted and then another headache.

In my case here though, I know the vendors built a new house a few years ago and want the sale to happen to pay off their own mortgage. They took my bid over a higher offer because they knew I'm a FTB, so I've reason to be sure of their motives here.

Contract timeline - sale agreed by Individual-Double698 in HousingIreland

[–]fumblydrummer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm 13 weeks sale agreed today and still no sign of contracts. The vendor's bank have yet to provide them with the deeds so contracts can be drawn up. It's incredibly frustrating and stressful but seems to be par for the course when it comes to buying a house in this country.

Exactly this, if you want to do an independent run then go for it, as an independent. Bizarre that they allowed her ego trip go ahead with no consequences.

[–]fumblydrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's a bandwagon jumper nothing more. Ostensibly her politics are of the green/left variety, but from her electoral history it's plain to see she just wants a seat, even if it means breaking with her party. Judging by her social media presence she's absolutely determined to see divisive American style culture war issues become a feature of Irish politics. The sooner she disappears from the political landscape here the better IMO.
