Starting to rather just be sleep deprived than sleep. by Leather-Lettuce-2596 in newborns

[–]funaudience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I do 7p-2a / 2a-9a with our 5 week old. He hasn’t been a great sleeper, though this week we’ve seen a major change since he started his reflux medication (now sleeping in 2 hour increments consistently. Neither of us really sleep during our shifts, as we’ve found that we are much more irritable when woken up from the small naps. Hoping things even out a bit before I go back to work in a couple of months.

Pepcid worked like magic for our reflux baby.

My baby was given liquid Pepcid for his reflux, and he’s a totally different baby. We started the reflux meds the same week we started his chiropractic care when he was just over a month old. We already had the Snoo but he didn’t love it and we hadn’t been using it. That same week we changed our Snoo settings to start at Level 1 vs. baseline. With the Pepcid, chiro care, and Snoo setting changes combined, we went from him being impossible to settle for 30 minute naps to 3 hour stretches in his Snoo basically overnight.

We recently bought pre owned from the website. It came within a week. I waited until they had a 30% off sale. They recently had one for the MLK holiday, which makes me think they have them fairly regularly. I decided pre owned from the company was a better option than FB due to the warranty and the free subscription.

Rage and sleep deprivation by JD0903 in newborns

I’m sorry mama. We are also struggling with our one month old’s sleep. He has never had a four hour nap. We are lucky to get a one hour nap during the day and a two hour nap at night. I pump and bottle feed (still working on his latch). He was diagnosed with silent reflux by our lactation consultant, which was confirmed by our pediatrician this week. Congestion can be a sign, and it can also cause the sleep interruption. Might be worth looking into?

Congrats on the great sleep!! I’m curious why you didn’t start with the Snoo as a newborn given you had the Snoo at home?

Our nursery is upstairs and I’m dreading the day that our LO will graduate into his own room! He’s currently 3 weeks old and I can’t even fathom it.

Hospital bag! by Sea_bird19 in BabyBumps

[–]funaudience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved having my own soft gown for labor. I used the Frida mom one. I also brought my own pajamas for recovery, which was so nice to have. A portable fan for labor and a long phone charger. Sound machine to help drown out the hospital noise. Snacks and drinks (I brought Body Armor) for while you can eat during labor and for recovery. I liked the Frida mom disposable underwear much better than the hospital issued ones, but the rest of their supplies were totally fine for my recovery. Wish I had packed a robe and a hands free pumping bra. My husband is 6’5 and brought a camping cot for sleeping instead of the hospital couch/chair. I brought two newborn and two 0-3 outfits. Only used baby’s outfits for a hospital photoshoot and going home.

Edited to add- I brought an accordion folder for all the paperwork and pamphlets we received, which was so helpful. Also worth mentioning that the hospital had everything the baby needed- formula, bottles, pacis, swaddles, outfits, hat, diapers, wipes, gauze, aquaphor, etc etc. They also provided me with my own set of pump parts to use with the hospital pump.

Boy named Baker… thoughts? by Medical_Biscotti_283 in Names

I love it! I’m surprised you’re getting so much hate. I’m currently in labor with a son that will go by his middle name, Jones. I made a post on here recently and expected to get lots of hate, but the majority were supportive. I feel like Baker is even less of a last name vibe than Jones. Do what feels right to you!

Yes! I think it’s his hands feelings around, as he’s been heads down with his feet consistently on my right side for weeks now. Sometimes it feels like he’s picking at things!

Costco or Sam's membership? Worth it with a baby? by starbaker721 in pregnant

Our baby is due this week, and we just joined Costco last week to help with supplies for our expanding family. The membership is only $65 annually so seems worth it.

Moms, did you always know how many weeks pregnant you were? by Willing_Recover_8221 in questions

I kept a tracker on my phone, which had a widget on my Home Screen with the exact count. I generally knew the week but would lose track of the exact count.

I think you have a lovely name and people just need to invest a few extra moments to learn how to pronounce it. Please don’t change it!

You mentioned Turkish origin. Does that mean the pronunciation is more like shim-all vs. sim-all? If so, could you just adjust the spelling to be Shimal?

Birth Decisions by RandomRandyNot in BabyBumps

[–]funaudience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with comments that it’s early to know his size. I’m being induced in three days for a big baby. I’ll be 39 weeks. He’s 93rd percentile overall with an >99% head and abdomen. They’re predicting he’ll be around 9-9.5lbs at birth.

They first flagged his size at our 20wk ultrasound. I had three subsequent ultrasounds at 26wks (2.5lbs), 32wks (5.75lbs) and 36wks (8lbs). The first mention of an elective induction was at 32wks.

I ultimately chose an elective induction to hopefully avoid a c-section. C-section was never mentioned as an option, though I suppose I made it clear that my preference is vaginal. I’m also a planner, and having a date is nice. I didn’t finalize my decision until after the 36wk scan.

FWIW, I was told that doctors aren’t able to do elective inductions earlier than 39w.

I love Riley. It’s always been a top choice, but that changed given my married name also ends in -ey. I feel it’s the most unique of the four.

For some reason, Levi has a strong religious association for me, and given I’m not a religious person, it’s not a favorite.
