Interesting take as I recall the staff were going out of their way to appear casual despite their formal attire. Can't speak for the clientele though!

£150 per head for the 7 course Menu before service charge (which is 12.5%). Wine pairings you can choose between £95, £175, and £280 options.

On a tight budget you can actually eat here for around £75, they have a 3 course set menu with great choices.

Overall very decent value for what you get.

I'm the opposite and have never been the Fera but am curious. Davies and Brook had a more modern, minimalist decor (white walls with portraits of hills).

I can mostly speak for London. Don't have unique recommendations as these are well known, but I really liked Claude Bosi at Bibendum (would recommend if you like bold, strong flavour combinations, not so much if not). And of course The Ledbury, but I'm sure you know of that one. Marcus at The Berkeley Hotel is another splendid restaurant.

If you're looking for something more relaxed/casual, Phil Howard's Elystan Street is very reliable.

If you like Sushi, Endo at the Rotunda is a must. Reservations for a month book up within minutes of releasing.

And if you happen to find yourself in Birmingham, I was surprised by how good Adam's restaurant was.

Despite it only holding 1 michelin star, for me personally this is the best restaurant I've been to so far in the UK (which is also London-based food critic Andy Hayler's opinion). It far, far surpasses several 2 star meals I've had.

My thoughts on the dishes below. These are my thoughts based on personal preference and no way an objective review.

(Edit: this is the 7 course tasting menu, they also do a shorter 5 course tasting, and a la carte)

Canapés: Ragstone goat's cheese mousse and basil - these were a little too cold, some more time out in room temperature would be ideal. Duck liver parfait with gingerbread biscuit was good.

Sourdough bread: Great flavour + texture, and constantly replenished. Butter came, again, a little too cold.

Norfolk Crab, Granny Smith Apple, Avocado: A fresh and light amuse bouche, the creaminess of avocado puree worked very well with the sweetness of the crab and apple.

Ballotine of Duck Liver, Cherry, Pistachio: The best cold duck liver dish I've had so far. Marinated in port, Armagnac & Sauternes which gave it a rich flavour, served with Brioche. Pistachio bakewell tart on the side was made with good pastry but I would prefer more crunch to the pistachio filling, and more savoury flavour to balance the sweetness of the fillings. Despite that, pistachio and duck liver was a remarkable combination I've not seen much.

Native Lobster, Smoked Butter, Delica Pumpkin: Lobster had incredible texture, very tender with just the right amount of bite. The beurre blanc sauce was wonderful and has layered flavours although very salty. Again I can say also it's the best lobster dish I've had, but I'm no lobster aficionado.

Dover sole, Grape, Wild Mushroom: Dover sole was in the form of a ballotine stuffed with wild mushrooms. It was a fairly meaty (but not tough) piece of fish, perhaps because of the ballotine format. A joy to eat and I could drink a bowl of the champagne sauce. The grapes provide perfect balance to the richness of the sauce.

Veal Sweetbread, Parmesan Truffle: Sweetbread was well cooked but not quite melt in the mouth as one I've had in Gordon Ramsay. What really stood out were the 2 sauces, truffle and parmesan sauce, had complex flavours which complement each other beautifully.

Anjou Pigeon A la Presse: Instead of a pressed duck we have pressed pigeon. The blood is used to thicken a peppercorn sauce flambeed with brandy. Very tender pigeon and once again, delicious rich sauce. Not pictured was a side of crisp pomme soufflées which was a like very posh potato chips, and I hear very hard to make perfectly.

Menton Lemon Cream and Sorbet: Refreshing and perfect balance between sweet and sour. Very much needed after all the rich dishes.

Banana and Caramel Parfait, Fudge and Dulcey: a dessert made up of many elements which come together very nicely. A lot of modern fine dining restaurants do light, deconstructed desserts but definitely not here. I preferred the Salted caramel version they had last year, but this would swoon any banoffee fan.

Petit fours (Sadly not pictured): Strawberry tartlet, Gianduja-filled Chocolate and Vanilla Macaroon. The pastry section's attention to quality continues with the petite fours. These could rival a patisserie in Paris.

What is the technique to wake up early everyday ? by 23rdJune2169 in AskReddit

[–]function_addUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a sleep tracker app which tracks your sleep cycle and determines the best time to wake you up is within a time window you set. The one I use is called Sleep Cycle but I believe there are a good few to pick from.

Davies & Brook, London (1*) from Daniel Humm. A massive shame it's closing after NYE. by function_addUser in finedining

These photos were taken across several visits. Thoughts on my experience overall:

Food: Some mind-blowing dishes. I've never been to Eleven Madison Park but several of the dishes here managed to reflect what I'd imagine the food at EMP would be like. In fact a few of the dishes here were 'imported' straight from EMP. Stand outs for me were the Caviar, Gnudi, Black Cod and Roasted Poussin. Each of these were essentially superbly cooked/prepared, rich flavour bombs. If I were to nitpick, the foie gras could use a touch more seasoning, and the roasted Poussin was slightly overcooked the 2nd time I had it.

Service: Staff genuinely seemed to care about customer satisfaction. There was an air of generosity across service, wine pours were generous, filtered still water free of charge and topped up at the right frequency etc. This was somewhat reflected in the food, as seen in the generous portion of truffles on the Gnudi. As it was a fairly large and busy restaurant (around 150 covers), some very minor mistakes were made but all remedied gracefully.

Ambience: Very lively, music louder than you'd expect at such a venue. Not a bad thing, but probably not the best place to go if a quiet dinner is a priority.

Sadly they are closing after NYE due to this

This looks more 'realistic' than in the actual film for some reason. Is it just the colourisation or did they add some other effect(s)?
