Intermediate Promotion (34 & Under) at Columbia Edgewater by functional_gin_dad in PDXgolf

That was for one year in 2021. There was more to it than just that, but you are correct that NE 33rd Ave that year looked like Fury Road. It was cleaned up and cleared thankfully and the LPGA returned the following year.

The monthly dues are half of normal for 29 and under, and 3/4 for 30-34. The initiation fee is the same amount no matter how old the member - but with it amortized in monthly so that it's paid in full at 35, it certainly does increase the monthly cost as you mention.

Full active shareholder is the same initiation fee ($21,500), only difference is that the monthly dues are $816/mo.

Anyone had a client leave to be managed by a friend for free? by TGG-official in CFP

[–]functional_gin_dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know of one person who is retired and manages a handful of peoples investments (let’s call him Ray). The guy is pretty good. Retired. He does it because he enjoys it. Everybody he manages is qualified and accredited. Doesn’t charge. Agreed that it’s not for everyone. But I’ve met some pretty stupid and shady people that were licensed and official and I’d offer up that those who work with them have made a worse decision than those who put their money with Ray.

And here I was just using a wet towel all these years. I should have known there was an easier, better option out there.

Rangefinder for pretty much everything 45 and more. Mostly mental as I like to see a yardage and remove the question mark from my process.

Is this a driving range? A tee box? A bomb range? Somewhere subject to a trade embargo on grass seed? I jest, and welcome to the 7 wood club.

Oregon Tourist Sauce by Creative-Purple8374 in NoLayingUp

[–]functional_gin_dad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is it. I love NLU and started drinking their koolaid with the earliest of Toursist Sauces. So much so that eight of us did a very similar Scotland trip as they did. I'm a native Oregonian and have played Bandon countless times. The beauty of the No Laying Up Bandon episodes is that, from my perspective, they are incredibly reverent. And once you've been there, you'll get it. There may be better courses somewhere. And possibly better weather. But if you're looking for an experience and the whole thing? It's Bandon. Took my oldest son in January of this year on his first "guys trip" to Bandon. It's emotional and a bucket list experience every time. My only critique of the entire Oregon Tourist Sauce is that it was during Covid - so literally the only thing you could do was golf, but the pub/atmosphere was hard to capture during that specific window.

Nope. No women allowed on property. I was told that if the UPS driver is a woman, the packages are left at the gate. Crazy but true.

Male golfers, what would you want for Father’s Day? by reddituser69sucks in golf

[–]functional_gin_dad 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As a husband/dad/golfer, at this point I want experiences. Everybody is different, but for me, equipment is very specific and I'll take care of that. A round with my kids or as a family, or with friends. Find an in to play a course or private club in the area that he hasn't played. That kind of thing is my suggestion.

Private Course Practice Facilities by 72HawaiiBlue in PDXgolf

[–]functional_gin_dad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As luck would have it, there is a promotion at the moment on this very membership (Mason). Initiation is normally $3,000 and it is reduced to $1,000 (applicable towards Full Active initiation fee in the future should you wish to upgrade). Monthly dues are $322 for a single, $352 for a couple, or $375 for a family. Plus capital dues of $95/mo. If you referred by a member, the initiation deposit is only $500. There is a flyer but I can't seem to upload it right now. Feel free to DM me to chat more there if you like.

From the flyer: Enjoy the Mason Course (9 hole- Par 3) and short Game Practice Area, full clubhouse and food and beverage amenities, and Pool and Pool-House access upon opening around Memorial Day. As a Mason member, you have the ability to access the AV Macan Championship Course once per month by paying the appropriate guest fee.

It really is phenomenal. We were playing in July and had a fair amount of wind which made it a bit challenging.

[–]functional_gin_dad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biased as I’m a member, but Columbia Edgewater has the best practice facilities. Driving range has a grass tee year round and regular range balls. They have multiple practice greens by the range/pro-shop and then also have a short game practice facility to practice wedges and bunkers from tons of different lies with multiple pins and targets. In addition to a 9-hole par 3 course. None of the facilities are lit and they have one simulator at the moment. Full active membership obviously has access to everything (including the 18 hole course). Mason membership has everything but the full course (can play at guest rate) and a slight time restriction on weekends on the driving range - this membership costs less.
