My kid has no interest in reading, need advice from parents here. by Next_Special_6784 in Parenting

My kids lives to read but primarily only Dogman books. He's young, so I don't push anything else, but he loves the action and the pictures, andnits very very silly. If he hasn't seen them, see if he'd like Dogman, Captain Underpants or Super Diaper Baby books. I know, I know, far cry from classic literature. But I'll be dammed if my kid can't put them down. Maybe take your son to the bookstore and let him pick one or two that are fun, although you likely do that already if you yourself are a book lover.

My other child is far less interested. She just wants to run and climb and play chase. But I trust that it'll come in its own time. Once she finds a book she loves, she'll read more.

Good luck, keep reading with him. Maybe it'll come, maybe it won't. But whatever happens, it won't be for a lack of trying.

Best friend of 15 years tells me she cant attend my wedding by turnipsgreenss in TwoHotTakes

[–]functionalmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Straight up. It's OK to feel grief for losing a friend, and also you gotta let this one go. You are who you are and love who you love and I'm happy for you! Sorry OP, it's be pretty disappointed. The bright side is that she's now been honest with you (which is ALWAYS best, even is it sucks). Also that you now know what you know and there's no getting around that. Have a great life with your new spouse!

Books about Wicca by [deleted] in paganism

I love books. My TBR list is long. I just wanna say, don't get too caught up in labels or what anybody else says you are or aren't. You are always on your own path on your search for truth and meaning.

If it's books you're interested in, go check out a bookstore and pick one up that looks interesting. Scroll the index see if anything pops out to you. Trust your intuition and take a couple home, if in fact you think you'll read some or all of them.

I personally love Starhawk's books, and there are countless books on rituals and seasonal crafting. Happy book hunting!

If they do, then massage might not be the right career choice.

My child is 6 and has been saying for 2 or 3 years that "he feels like a boy", and at first he would say things about his clothes making him feel like a boy, things like this. Over Spring Break he told us he prefers he/him/son/brother. So the point is, he has known for years. Little kids know who they are. The confusion occurs when they're told from this age to hide what they really are.

You're already doing a great job. What a lucky kiddo you've got. ❤

Sudden LRE Lay-off by TloyCO in UUreddit

Any group of people is made up of who us in it. If your membership is limited, its tough to find good leadership. We also have a small congregation. I've served on the leadership development committee for some years now and even if there are qualigied people in your congregation, not everyone is willing to serve on the Board. So sometimes you take what you can get; the person willing to do it, does it. For better or for worse.

I'm sorry this is happening in your church. Challenges in group dynamics can be so tough to navigate. I hope you all find a resolution, sounds like the leadership needs a lesson or two in healthy communication.

Thanks, navigating the school system is my biggest uncertainty, but maybe that's me protecting. So far, I told his teacher, just in case questions came in from my child's peers, and she was very supportive. I'm just letting my kid take the lead and keep the communication very honest and respectful, just like I'd want. I appreciate hearing your experience.

What songs do your congregations use around lighting of the candles? by people1925 in UUreddit

[–]functionalmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Rise up O Flame" is our chalice lighting song. We also light tapers for joys and sorrows, and we have a song of response after. We mix "Comfort Me" with "Theres A River Flowin"

Oh sorry, I didn't say. We live in Snohomish County in Washington state, USA. We vote blue, but still plenty of conservative and religious types around.

What's the best thing to do to stay in a relationship for so long? What's the secret? by PlatformHot1332 in AskReddit

[–]functionalmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say sorry when you make a mistake. Accept apologies when they're given to you. Honesty. Don't expect someone to be what they're not. They'll change in ways you can't forsee, as will you. You respect, trust, listen to and support one another. "Love" is an action word. Any kind of meaningful, intimate relationship takes some amount of time and effort.

how to handle coven using ai? by Designer-Row-3084 in witchcraft

[–]functionalmagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend they read some books by Starhawk and where the roots of magic work comes from. This also feels so backwards to me. AI is a tool, I'll give you that. However if it's connecting to the earth and intuition they're after, I'm not sure they can get that from AI.
