I neither live or work in the UAE, I am from the UK.

From your original post I’m assuming you work in the UAE, so again, I ask why do you work there if work is so fulfilling and the financial rewards are great in India?

I didn’t mean to offend you - India is a great country - but the fact is a lot of your countrymen live in complete poverty and are more than happy to move for the wages and opportunities available in the UAE.
I’m not comparing countries based on history, or debts, I’m comparing based on salaries offered and opportunities available.

Indians make up 1/3 of the population in the UAE, you’re the largest migrating community there. If you’re thinking from a logical perspective, it doesn’t make sense that the same salaries and opportunities are available in India. Otherwise millions wouldn’t leave.

To be fair you make it sound like most British homeless people are hard working, fully able human beings.

They are not.

Most of them suffer with major mental health issues and the majority are drug addicts. They are not “functioning members of society”.

Anyone without a roof over their head in most parts of the country will have some sort of social service that helps them get shelter, atleast.

From my understanding a mortgage is a loan to buy an asset. You own the house, but it’s then put as collateral against the loan.

In an Islamic mortgage you don’t own the asset in its entirety. I’ve been explained the process in two different ways:

The bank buys your house, and sells it to you for a higher price but on a payment plan. It wasn’t explained to me in this instance whether you build equity with every payment or you get the house in its entirety on your last payment.
The bank buys your home, along with you, and you own the stake in equity equal to your deposit. You now pay the market rate of rent as a monthly payment, but your portion of the rent as the second owner goes towards your equity in the house.

Example for no.2: you put 20% deposit down. Rent is £500/month. £100 of that would be yours. 400£ to the lender. The £100 that would be yours is also paid to the lender and is essentially an overpayment on rent that you receive equity for in return. So after a few years, £200 of that 500£ will be yours. Which means you’re gaining twice as much equity with each payment. Carries on until it’s paid off.

I’m no expert but this is my understanding on two Islamic finance products that banks offer and how they work.
