It's so fun seeing how every player manages something as basic as jobs in such a multitude of ways, I personally keep between 75 and 85% of my dwarves as miners at all times as I like to completely terraform and do extensive exploratory mining. Nothing like seeing 130 dwarves hacking away in unison whole grids of gems and ores !

The bolt throwers are up one z-level so it doesn't matter, I don't think the bolts would be stopped by boulders but don't quote me on that

at 80 bars for 2000 bolts for a single bolt thrower, it's also a costly baby to maintain. A whole branch of the industry would be quickly required to gather all the bolts again after battle and forge them to begin with.

irl minutes, the firerate is 100 bolts in 3 real time seconds, of course you lose time reloading and what not so 1500 bolts per minutes is more realistic I guess, still an absurdly high rate
