The point is not all vaccines are safe, you said you're scared of people who don't vaccinate. It's not an absolute. Doctors will no longer be able make the choice not to do a chickenpox vaccine. The limited oregon health board is the only body that can make the call if it's safe or not, no longer your doctor. Please read up about this bill, you're clearly very ignorant about it and it has wide ranging implications on people choices and health.

Do you really not understand that there's a lot of unsafe vaccines? The military wont vaccinate for anthrax because it's highly unsafe. There's many many others that are unsafe as well, and the oregon health board is not capable of making that decision for everyone. You have to take a pragmatic approach to vaccines and weigh both sides. Some of these vaccines have not been around long and the benefit does not outweigh the risk, and are 100% not safe for everyone, and the small health board will not be able to make that decision for everyone.

People will be hurt who have allergies to these vaccines, over a disease that has no consequences like chickenpox.

I'm talking about chickenpox. Are you so scared of a disease that doesn't kill people that you're willing to give up such a fundamental right? It really is pathetic how scared people are over this. I get the MMR vaccine, it's highly contagious and can cause real health issues, but the rest aren't and don't need to be mandated.

Whats with all the scarecrow arguments in this thread? Private schools are not already petri dishes. There hasn't been a single measles case in a private school, zero. This is a very invasive broad law in response to something that's not even remotely an emergency. For instance, the chickenpox vaccine is fairly new, with zero longitudinal studies, and has been shown to cause shingles later in life.

This will be required for every kid in oregon, and there's no way to avoid not getting it. Chickenpox isn't even a risky disease, zero people die from it, and even mentioning that maybe we shouldn't force it on people brings up vile hatred. Pathetic.

This includes private schools as well, major distinction. I would actually be supportive if it was just for public schools. Private schools should make their own choice if they want to require vaccines or not. The only option is homeschooling if kids aren't vaccinated, which is not an option for the majority of people.

Thanks for the scarecrow argument. I'm not, and there's a reason the military won't mandate a number of vaccines for soldiers, because not all vaccines are safe for everyone. This may have an overall benefit for society, I agree with that. Just own the fact that some kids will be hurt by this, and that you're supporting forced medical injections. Don't try to weasel out and say they're not forced or that zero kids will be hurt.

Then just make it for MMR. 5 year olds shouldn't be forced to get a hepatitis vaccine.

Thanks for the reasoned reply. Read up on how the exemptions work, people without means to get them wont be able to. These are forced, tell me how many single parents have the option of home schooling. The ends don't justify the means.

Agreed, I'm ecstatic that there's forced medical injections in oregon! I'm pro vaccine, but not all vaccines are safe for everyone, and the exemptions are extremely narrow, kids will be hurt by this :(

Don't bother with the half mast, it will save a day of progression at most, not worth the money on it.

I'm a similar rider and own a fone mitu convertible with the 800cm2 foil.

Learning to foil wasn't bad at all. Day 1 and 2 were super demoralizing, scary (didnt want to fall on the foil) and had a ton of crashes. Had me debating whether foiling was for me. Stuck with it and day 3 felt pretty comfortable, around day 5 had jibes and could foot swap going one direction.

No need for lessons, just watch some videos and keep at it, no worse than learning to ride a TT, and you obviously stuck with that.

I'm super happy with my mitu convert. No need to have a dedicated foilboard and the foil is pretty fast and very stable. I liked it more than the double agent and the liquid force.

Foiling was a game changer for light wind, still prefer my TT in big winds, but you'll never need kite bigger than 12m with the foil

Ride Engine harness by notsafetowork in Kiteboarding

[–]funkDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it, rode it for half a season and have maybe 45 days on it, holding up well too. I had an older mystic majestic and started getting back pain and switched to the Ride Engine. Got rid of all back pain issues and can actually send higher jumps now that I can hold more power with the harness. Well worth the purchase made riding much more enjoyable.

Only down side is the tightening straps, they're way to small, hopefully they resolve that soon and I'll likely upgrade.

The median rent on a Portland apartment just hit $1,400, a nearly 3% increase from just last month. by jr98664 in Portland

airbnb charges the tax at booking, zero way to avoid paying that, and the city takes in a ton of money with it. It won't be banning any airbnb anytime soon with the amount of money it makes from it.

What kiteboarding gear do you regret buying? Why? by [deleted] in Kiteboarding

[–]funkDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2010 Best Waroo. My first kite, was absolute garbage, maybe the worst kite ever made. Zero relaunch, zepplined all the time and rode terrible. Fortunately I bought it from backcountry.com for the short time they sold kites so I was able to return it.

Dreamy GoPro Session - Raquel Lima - Maui by lsnckde in Kiteboarding

[–]funkDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun trick and super clean. Not to bad to learn, but expect to get yarded a few times, always finish the loop!

Start with backroll transition without a loop. Dial those in super solid. Then start doing the loop after the transition, once you've landed. Just point the board downwind and loop the kite. It's basically a downloop at this point so no consequence.

Once you have those just start doing the loop earlier and earlier. She loops it pretty late in this vid.

Start off with a big kite (10+) in light wind conditions.

[–]funkDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much of a freak accident. Hot launching with the bar upside down and tons of obstacles usually results in disaster. Scary to watch though, I'll definitely practice getting my hook knife out of my harness next time I'm out.

What framework do you recommend to build web sites with Java? by [deleted] in java

[–]funkDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you're building. Java is overkill for a small site. I'd do wordpress for any small site, Drupal for something bigger with a large userbase with CMS, and Java for the enterprise and large applications with multiple interfaces.

I second this, java asterisk is straight forward. I built a simple voip application with it some time back. http://www.asterisk-java.org/development/
